Welcome to the Photocomp number 10 judgement thread! Comp #10's topic was transport.

Please declare your vote in a clear manner, eg, <user> - <pic number>

If there is a need for discussion of any kind other than photo-technical, please use a different thread for that.

Voting may continue until Friday 21:00 CET, or until a clear majority has been reached. In the event of a tie, I will judge.

#1: Death Valley last year on my road trip. Picture was taken out of the window of the RV while we were driving :)

Ouch!

the level of competition is going to be tough on this one. Itcheh and pfy, two very nice pics there.

Going to start with a golden oldie and then take two new pics for this compo.

Ok you may be thinking "Tom, that's a fucking bridge you twat" and you'd be half correct, but this is actually Prestolee Aqueduct, designed and built to carry the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal across the River Irwell at Prestolee. Its about 220 years old and still carries water, although no boats have crossed it for at least 40 years.

These were taken a few years back at the Goodwood Revival. A fantastic weekend it was.

Itcheh, I love that road shot, and the airport for that matter.

These things are ace. They're called Steam locomotives, they're the latest technical innovation and are slowly being introduced throughout Bury and Rossendale!

Its actually on the ELR line coming into Summerseat station

JB, re the misty - have you tried converting it to black and white and playing with the contrast? I find pictures that have mist and fog in them can have a large impact in black and white + contrast adjustments.

My falkirk wheel picture was shite in colour - no depth, no atmosphere, flat, grey, boring. I converted it to black and white, played with clarity and contrast to recover a reasonable shot.

Cheers Big G, that definitely improves the pic, I've looked into making it Sepia rather than B&W to add some element of nostalgia

I'll second that, RB's #2

Infact, all RB's pics are brilliant in their capture and composition, brilliant effort mate; it'll be criminal if one doesn't win.

On the car picture, can I ask which camera and what lens and at what focal length? Interested to see what kit that was captured on, looks like a long(ish) focal length?

Thank you G, very kind, though for me it is between G's #3 and Itcheh's road shot, with G winning by a short head.

My car shot was taken with my old (now replaced) Nikon D70 and a Nikon 24-120 VR lens, at 120mm, I got a few good panning shots that weekend, but this has always been my favourite.

You managed to get that at 120mm ? Wow, how close to the track were you ?

The great thing about the Goodwood Revival, you really can get close to the track, and often without huge crowds in the way. It is a dSLR though so 120mm would equate to 180mm in old film 35mm film terms.
