Help [FH] Appeal

Hi guys - welcome to my begging thread

Although my eldest has a laptop, and youngest a desktop for gaming, I am getting an increasingly horrid sense of guilt that I will be removing my own PC from the house next weekend, as the eldest uses it for gaming which his lappy isn't really up to, and my youngest is reluctant to share his machine (he plays quite a lot of stuff).

There have been quite a few 'new/upgrade machine advice' posts on here over recent months, so I am wondering whether if any of you have 2nd gen components no longer in use could you post up any details, as I am looking at whether I can fudge together a desktop machine which will run some older games like CSS, or perhaps L4D without too much trouble. Not concerned about having graphics set high etc, just to be able to offer some decent gameplay.

If I am lucky enough to get some offers of kit, then I will look at the overall cost of postage etc, as money right now is getting extremely tight for me in the face of legal bills and interim maintenance on top of having to pay rent as well as a mortgage. If it's viable, I would be happy to pay postage on any offers of kit, so please my fellow freddies, is there anything out there on offer please?

I'm getting rid of some of our office kit in the next few weeks mate. If anything we don't need has any grunt left in it (i.e. it's not fucking toilet) then it's yours. Thinking about it I've got a pair of harman kardon speakers + subwoofer that have been sitting in my wardrobe that are yours if you want them.

Bah, I just threw away a load of oldish stuff, literally a week ago.

I still have a HD4890 graphics card with a knackered heatsink if you are desperate. You are welcome to it (I missed it in my clear out)

I bought a new heat sink for it but I don't think I fitted it properly so as it still crashes when it gets too hot, I am sure someone can have a look at it for you though.

I will have a look later on when I get in, just in case I missed anything else.

I have a core 2 duo / quad board / CPU / memory bundle up in the loft you can have. It was retired due to some PSU issues I later tracked to a faulty graphics card. Back in country at the weekend so will sort it out with you next week if you are interested

I can give you an entire shell with 64bit 3.04GHz CPU (single core), Motherboard and 2GB RAM. Reasonable BFG graphics card in it. No HDD.
