Personally i doubt it's anything more than bandwidth throttling by your isp in peak times. More or less every isp does it now, and it would explain why you get near what you're paying for at about 4am and not often any other time.

lol'd.

Edit: Apparently because i misread it as: Are you one with the internet! or connected to it.

Depending on your router you can get that information - but you have to read the manual to get the info :(

Mail the manufacturer!

i have seen speeds of 2200kbs during the middle of thenight, however at any other time of the day, even if i aint downloaded anything i dont go over 1000kbs. Its usually around the 500 mark which is pisspoor imo for a 20meg connectin :/

If you have AVG installed, then you can check there under Analysis > Connections.

If you can download the 30 day trial, try X-NetStat for a more detailed view of your network.

If you are the only person connecting on the ADSL line going into your property your problems might be down to the piss poor Contention ratio usually (50:1) for a residential service, the more built up the area in which you live the more chance you are sharing your adsl line on BT's network with more people. Speeds of "Upto" xxxx ftl.
