Just wondering what all the people who said he would flop are thinking now?

For £20 million he has earned that price tag and then some.

Anyone who ever watched him play for Atletico knew he was one of the special footballers you see now and then.

Flops don't score 3 hatricks and get double goal figures in their first season.

Anyone else a Torres fan before he made it to Liverpool?

The guy just oozes class whenever he gets the ball in my opinion easily one of the best strikers in the world.

he missed 3/4 of his chances in Atletico. That was his problem back then.

He was always going to be successful, it helps that benitez has finally realised he needs to play him consistently. Liverpools service to their forwards has not been the best, and it shows his ability to get goals even without the best support.

He still has a long way to go.

He has performed well in a selection of matches and has definitely shown his potential. The problem is, he is largely absent in the big games, and is incapabale of scoring as freely as he does against the poorer teams.

It's a good first season, but he has a long way to being world class. He needs to play well in big games against big teams, and he still has yet to prove himself at international level.

Benitez always wanted to play him consistently but if we're playing potentially 60+ games a season he, quite rightly, didn't play him much against the "lesser" teams. He's had a short stint injured and we're out of the FA Cup so Benitez has the option of rotating him less...which he's come out and said he's gonna do.

I think Michael Owen was fantastic but Torres has shown more about his game in his first season than Michael has in any point in his career...

Oh, and Waz. He played great against Chelski and he hasn't proven himself internationally yet because Athletico weren't a good enough team to get there...

Me too i had no doubts at all about him i watched many games of Atletico even went as far to go over and watch a few in Spain as well. He was always so good to watch even when he didn't score.

He is so fast yet when you look at him for the first time you would think he isn't the quickest on the pitch either.

Still remember the games when he destroyed The Barca Boys fun to watch as well.

He can sure finish them aswell loved that screamer of a goal against Middlesborough a week ago.

Also i think he is a strong player mentally that game when he scored his first hatrick against Reading i think the defenders bullied him all night most strikers would cower away and not be seen for the rest of the match. Torres? bangs in a hatrick.

One of the reasons I like him is that he came out and said he never wanted to play for either of those showers ;)

The only concern I've got is that there's mounting pressure for him to perform like this week-in week-out at the moment. He's still only 3rd top scorer and whilst that's pretty amazing for a first season it's next season that's gonna be the tough one for him...

Still, he's better than Tevez and scores more goals than Rooney...

Ah yes, our second and third best scorers. I'm not sure he's "better" than either tbh. Very different playing styles. Which isn't to say I wouldn't like to see him playing for United, but we'll probably pick up Huntelaar or Berbatov next season to give us an out and out striker (and ramp up the positive GD even more :)). Much better to have 3-4 players scoring 15+ a season than one scoring 30...

who would you drop for Berbatov? I wouldnt go near him, if Man Utd were to buy someone they should go after someone who is prolific in the box. Saying that I still cant see who is available that at this moment in time could improve our squad.

With the depth of midfield support United provide, Berbatov would be prolific in the box. What United probably don't need is another Van Nistelrooy; he was a prolific scorer but everything became about getting the ball to him, and we didn't win much trophy-wise playing with that style. Berbatov is a good compromise because he's tall and physical (something we lack sometimes) but not a typical target man. SAF has pointed out that sometimes United can be a little too pretty for their own good though, which is why Saha is there, but he's too fragile.

You don't drop anyone; I think SAF has proved this season that rotation isn't a bad thing if you get it right; the problem with Liverpool's rotation system is that it doesn't work with mediocre players; Torres and Gerrard have to be in the team every week because the alternatives aren't up to it (although I think Benitez consistently underrates Crouch); whereas United have two good players in almost every part of the pitch, and not only that, a flexibility that most other teams would kill for (the way Ronaldo and Nani swap wings for instance).
