My fax machine, an aging Goldstar phone/fax/answer thing, sometimes won't send faxes to certain numbers. It beeps loudly at you, and comes up with some communication error.
Its only about 7 years old, so has anything changed over the last few years in the fax comms standards that means that some newer fax machines don't have a clue what its on about, and tell it to fuckoff?
