Favourite Author(s)?

OK, my first post in this section and I'm going to see what authors other people like. Me personally, I'm into Fantasy mostly, though I like some adventure fiction.

SO my authors, yes, plural.

David Eddings,
James Barclay,
David and Leigh Eddings (Though I prefer the books David wrote solo as the books they've written together tend to be a bit samey)
Raymond E Feist,
Trudi Canavan,
James Clemens,
Magaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

Also, if you can find it I recommend a series called the Lightbringer Trilogy by Oliver Thompson. Very dark, very atmospheric and full of imagery.

And Clive Cussler. I love this guy, only he could write a whole series of books where the main character is a slightly chauvanistic, somewhat arrogant man getting into far more unlikely scrapes than any man could possibly get into and make it all sound perfectly reasonable and plausible.

Not read those, will look into it. Have your read the Starbuck Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell? They are American Civil War fiction and very much character driven but give a great insight into what it was like for a frontline solider in that war.

Not read those, will look into it. Have your read the Starbuck Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell? They are American Civil War fiction and very much character driven but give a great insight into what it was like for a frontline solider in that war.

Take my advice mate read them, they are absolutely stunning books, took me about 3 months to finish all three but wow I loved every minute of it, the attention to detail is amazing. If you are that into the American Civil War then read them, trust me you will thank me

If I have a favorite author on the Civil War it would undoubtedly be Shelby Foote!

Make sure if you read them, that you are prepared for very in-depth writing lol. You get sucked into the books like you would not believe. If I remember correctly I stayed in one night reading the second book and read for 5 hours straight, not realising at all how fast the time had went, it felt like 30 minutes .

Just the type of book I love and I never read for less than 2 hours at a time, I like to immerse myself in a story and that takes time.

id read but i cant find the types of books that would interest me. in cyprus last year i actually read 2 books within about 3 days, ones left laying around the apartment. one was called "the curious incident of the dog in the night time" which was fucking excellent. i also read one called diaries of a fat girl, dont remember exactly and that was pretty funny too.

can anyone recommend books like the first one i listed?

Impressed to see that someone else (yay Cho!) has heard of Peter Hamilton. I think his Night's Dawn Trilogy is probably the best "space opera" I've ever read.

Surprised Iain Banks hasn't got a mention though. Go and read The Wasp Factory and Consider Phlebas...quality books. He writes really freaky fiction as Iain Banks and some pretty good sci-fi as Iain M. Banks.
