Farmers

I have no real sympathy for the farming situation atm, well its normally the short cuts that farmers take that cause these outbreaks.

The real thing that annoys me about the news reports is that it shows farmers all upset over this enforced 3km slaughter, yet most of these animals were likely to end up shrink wrapped any way.

well emb, i believe they're upset cos now the animals are disposed of, not eaten by us. one could say that now everyone loses.

The other thing....the Government finally makes the decision to do this 3km slaughter but oh look the farmers in this area then start bitching.

Fuck it, let Foot and Mouth spread and let the whole farming industry get fooked.

Give me American meat stuffed with steroids

Give it to them all

Why dont we just make sure EVERY animal that it affects has it then we dont have to worry about it spreading or what livestock is infected with it.

go to a farm affected by the outbreak m8, you will fel sympathy then. Its not even ny of the famers fault as the deses has spread through the air and such.

Just think about it, most famers will be out of a job becuse of this. No joking matter.

Dave please don't belittle me...since I've read and seen lots of articles on it.

'Most farmers'....that rubbish since even though it the worst case of F&M, most areas still remain unaffected by F&M and aren't even in the 3km slaughter region.

Yes I know it can remain in the air for a little while but main transfer comes through carriers.

Even the spread of F&M can now be considered to be the fault of those farmers who are unwilling to cooperate that are located inside the slaughter zone.

The original case will likely come down to a farmer using cheap feed or something else that could of been easily avoided.

Most of the farmers that get affected by it will be compensated by the EU and if not then they could of got cover from an insurance company for such problems....many didn't.

Farming in this country doesn't really have any impact on the economy as a whole...well since the BSE crisis when most UK meat was banded every where and now this.

I also know that while meat prices have fallen in general it seems that shops have been pushing the price up....strange that....it might just be imports but then again it might just be an excuse.

Oh btw could the government stop wasting my tax on trying to help...after all one farmer seem to think the farmers could handle the problem without government assistance

I think "most farmers out of the job" is a little OTT, about a week ago there was a report and only 0.3% of this countrys livestock has been slaughterd because of F&M, it has prolly gone up to about 0.6% now.

They want all this compensation from the goverment after the mad cow outbreak....

Then they help block our roads and fuel depots and complain about tax on fuel....

Then they want more compensation for foot and mouth...

Where do they think the money comes from? And let's face it, who's to blame in the first place?

Farmers can fuck off and die for all I care, fucking stupid cunts.

Also...I'm not sure I am totally correct here...but I was under the impression that:

1) Foot and mouth is curable, and
2) It doesnt affect the actual meat we eat from the animals.

If this is the case, where's the fucking problem?

That was something I heard as well....although its not meant to affect us I think its not legal to sell such meat.

I feel sorry for the tourist industry thats taking a hammering.

moo!

erm yeah i kinda agree on both sides here, you say it could be some stupid cunt feeding his animals cheap shit food, and maybe that started it, then fair enough, he deserves all he gets, but think about the people that didnt feed there animals cheap shit, and the animals they spent there 5am-5pm day to day job on get slaughterd, you'd be a bit pissed wouldnt you, i know i would, maybe lay of them a little as its hardly everyones fault is it, infact it might not be anyones, then again, it could be your fault for fucking that cow up the ass on that field on your way home fromt he pub the other night, who knows!, just lay of em eh, it aint all there fault.

the point is that people cutting corners is the reason so many farmers are having their animals slaughtered. Wouldn't you cry? How much are they being paid for the slaughtered animals? What would you be thinking if you saw fifteen years work and a prize herd in a burning heap?

I often have a view on the big news stories but with this one I'm stumped. There's just nothing interesting about it at all. Farmers are always being 0wned, it's part of their job.

I just hope that soon, everyone will get so fed up of this disease stuff that they will all turn vegetarian and no one will give a shit anymore.

This isn’t at all about Farmers – cows, pigs, feet, mouth or whatever – its all about one thing only…… MONEY.

Foot and Mouth can be prevented by immunisation.
An animal infected with Foot and Mouth, has a hard time for a couple of weeks, but ‘most’ recover to become relatively healthy (if left to live that long), (comparable to the effects of a common cold on people)
If an animal has been infected OR immunised, foot and mouth antibodies remain in its blood stream.
Animals/carcases can only be exported if they are deemed ‘disease free’. SO, if they are NOT ‘disease free’ they are not worth as much on markets etc.
Animals can only catch F+M once.
F+M is rife in African and Asian countries. (it really doesn’t matter there)
No-one knows exactly how it spreads. (perhaps in the smoke of burned carcasses????)

So the government wont immunise, which would devalue the countries entire livestock (farmers lose out). They’re no-doubt scared of another BSE / CJD animal to human crossover. (more veggies, lower meat sales etc). Would prefer to kill/burn hundreds of thousands of animals, for the sake of a mild, curable disease, THEN compensate the farmers with taxpayers money (everyone loses out).

Why don’t they just either immunise? (its best for the animals health, but until the cull count hits a few million animals more expensive), or let it spread? (animals suffer for a while – some would die of complications/other infections while they’re weak etc, animal exports would stop.). Either way, it would scupper the export industry, only one thing is lost !! - MONEY.

(((P.S. There’s already one political party saying they’d immunise if they came into power in the next G, Election – but they’ll hardly get a seat anyhows)))
