Good luck getting it all sorted out, and I hope that one day when you get your balance back you can come back and enjoy computer games for what they were always intended to be: a fun diversion, like watching a movie or reading a book.

Hrm, I get upset when I finish a good book :) well if it's one I identify with the characters in etc..

melancholy afterwards, want there to be more story :)

Some people can take the middle road, others can't. Nil gets my greatest respect for seeing he is one of the latter and doing something rather than fooling himself that he is one of the former.

Goodbye, and /salute.

As of now, i have deleted Niljindil, Alinia, Zimzi and Elven.. i will cancel my account as soon as i finish this.

First of all, i would like to say, thank you Tzeentch, i will probobly have everything i gain in my life from now on thanks to you.

Up until now, i have been wasting 2 years of my life.. supposedly going to school, but instead ive been playing counterstrike and DAoC. I had pretty good grades when i finished "högstadiet".. first nine years in swedish schools. But well, ive been destroying my life with playing games late at night and not waking up in time for school.

School started about one month ago, and if it werent for Tzee convincing me of not playing games.. i would probobly have dropped out in the nearest month or so to come. I already have missed like 25% of the classes and have been calling in sick sometimes just because i didnt wake up in time.

Im not sitting here, in tears, as an 18 year old guy from sweden, looking at my life seeing a patethic idiot who just deleted a virtual "person" and is breaking apart from it. Its sad really, online gaming is bad for your health.. literally.

To: Karam, you are right, this game is a sad excuse for killing time.. any computer game is.

To everyone in hibernia that i knew, i will miss you, but really, i dont want to become a homeless guy with no family because i played online games instead of going to school, so you will have to find someone else to yell at you during the dragon raids to come.

And lastly, if anyone here is in school and are playing this game for more than 20 hours a week(not counting weekends) then please.. do yourself a favour.. and think about where the hell you will be in 5 years, or even 20 years if you can imagine that. And if it doesnt look good, then for the love of god, cancel your account or give it to someone else, it isnt worth it.

This will most probobly be the last time i visit these forums, maybe one or 2 more times to read replies and stuff, but except that i will stay away from here for my own sake.

Hope you have fun in your lives, and hope you become something else than someone sitting at a computer all day long, because trust me, you dont want that.

Edit: Btw, if you play this game more than 30-40 hours a week, please consider that, while you are having fun, you are also wasting your time completely, you dont even own your characters, GOA owns them, the only thing you own is the right to play and the boxed set you bought in the store. If you are sitting that much at a computer, then do something productive, try to learn programming, or making websites, anything but playing games. Because really, it doesnt give anything to you in the end but the fact that you spent ALOT of time in front of the computer doing nothing but living in a virtual world owned by some company who you are actually PAYING money to. I had 41 days /played on Nilj. If you have more than that, then please, think about your life, what you are going to do next, and what you REALLY want to do instead of bringing you a few days closer to the ultimate... death.

a respectable decision. i dont blaim you, and i 100% agree with you that anyone playing over 20 hours or so a week is throwing they're life away, and really really needs to do something else.

you wont be missing anything anyway, this game is shit.

good luck in rl

Sad to see you both go i must say, but 1 thing nilji, i doubt u can quit after all the things you knew about daoc, all groups we had from 40+ u always had to discuss the game mechanics and how mythic sucks, and ffs kill the dragon next time before u going to retire. anyways, im prettty sure both of you will come back, like i did, you just need to convince yourself how to spend 50% in real life and 50% in daoc. you just need a strong mind for that, learn how to balance 2 things that are fun in life, cause i know you like it, it will help you.

Tzee ffs get back omg man i will never forget the times we were joking about everything in game, remember those days in EZ with DULAK etc ROFL, well you know what i mean hehehehe.

Both of you get back, reroll or something, enjoy the game the way it is supposed to be done. RL #1, everything else #2, just handle it :).

Matinex - retired etc,
Tyka - in your mouth.

Depends on what you do to achieve the "enjoyment".

Just an example, a guy enjoys gambling, loses all his money and his family and is in debt for the rest of his life.

keep kidding yourself. i admire nilj for admitting he's been addicted and seriously needs to do something about it. life isnt about what you enjoy, hense why we work for 60 years then die. its just something everyone has to do, and theres no escaping it, no matter how much some of us would like to <laughs at novamir>

/EDIT

also, looking at your chars on your sig XanateA, you BADLY need to get out more. 2 lvl 50s!?!?!?!? 1 rr6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the other rr5!?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????? GET A FUCKING LIFE FOR CHRIST SAKES

well ive always put working/coursework/revision low down on my list of priorities for better or worse. fun > work

if you don't want to do something, don't do it ! if someone chooses to play an online game with a lot of their time, then good for them, i bet they are a lot more secure in what they are doing than the person who is pointing the finger and namecalling.

i've got a healthy real life (i guess- dunno the exact qualifications ;)), and liked (until recently) playing daoc lots. now im getting bored of it and it's just as well since uni starts in but 8 days.

Karam are you an insecure guy IRL? seems u need to affirm yourself on these forums by seeing your name in topics, pissing others off with no point and generally being an online nuisance :)

keep kidding yourself novamir. your just trying to turn the situation around and attempting to make me out as the sad insecure one here. im not the one with (what was it, 80 days /played?). i've got 34 days /played. i'm not insecure, i dont like life, anyone that says they do is bull shitting. life consists of going to school for 10 years, which sucks while your doing it, then getting a job for 65 more years, which sucks even more so you'll be regretting not enjoying school more, then dying shortly after your 75 years old (if not before). BUT what im saying is some people run away from what life is, eg novamir, treniel, and that nolby pride nuub, which is NOT good, the further you run from life the harder it'll hit you when it catches up.

NUFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

I feel that even although I don't know you I must reply. It's great posts like these that brings a tear to everyone's eye.

I almost failed my first year in high school / college because of playing too much DAoC. Getting a group together could take hours and then you had to stay for hours because you didn't know when you got the opportunity again. That was the main factor that kept me on for long periods of time. I stopped playing at the end of June and just recently reactivated my account.

Whatever suits one best, one should do. I'm 18 like you and I still enjoy playing DAoC from time to time, but I've experienced the consequences of the game and I think I've learned when to stop.

Anyway, I'm really happy to see that you've come to the conclusion that you need to reprioritize your life.

Good luck with everything!

omg, you really do need to start living then ( ; The 9-5 work, retire at 65, die around 75 life is a stereotype. It's just the easy way to live, and the least rewarding I might add, if you're unable to see yourself as an individual in society, with unique characteristics. You don't have to be a stereotype. That is if you're clever, brave or willful enough to make more out of it and do what you like.

lol so so young, so immature. it doesnt work like that atall, as much as you'd like it to. even if i went to university and got a degree in computing i'd still be in a job i hate. the only possible way there is to enjoy life is by winning the lottery, or some other huge income of money which would mean you'd never have to work again.

unless u become a proffesional footballer, or actor, or pop star, but unfortunatly thats kinda unlikely for most people.

Karam, you're the one making blatant accusations, i didn't accuse anyone ;)

I had a year out, played a lot of daoc, and had fun. I'm not arguing with you because i need to affirm that im not sad, but because you have completely the wrong idea of life. do what you want and actually enjoy it, don't live your life for some stereotype shit you have heard about from your parents or in popular culture.

i kind of like 'getting obsessed' with something, like mystaee i know in 6months i probably won't be playing this game, but its great fun while it lasts.

its crazy when i read what some of you younger guys at uni/college write: your views are so polarised.

good luck mr nilijthingy :) if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen thats what i say :)

Real Life always has to come first

later

happy owner of a good job, car, house and enough free time to have a laugh playing DAoC :)

bummer

Nil was one of the folk I was really looking forward to seeing again.

I sure am glad that I am already old and married and dont have any kids so that I can be as lazy and irresponsible as I wish! ;)

I wonder if games will have any impact on reducing population growth? Always nice to get an unintended positive effect ;b

Another nice thing is that my wife really likes computer games also.

The not so nice thing is that she is disabled from auto accidents and so this is one of her major ways of "socializing" :(

Happily, her last operation has improved her pain level a LOT! :)

See you later, man. I PMed you with my email addy.

Uttering things like that and then calling people immature just triggers irrepressible hilarity in me :p

On a side note I know personnaly miserable actors and happy technicians :p

Well Niljindil I hope you'll find ur own thing, the way that will make up happy. Anyway I think ur decision is good, you can come back later to games if so you wish, it's harder to come back later to school when you feel you missed something.
