I imagine MP Freelancer is something I'll dip into now and again, but really only if BW hosted a persistent server.

I'm getting loads of differering release dates all through March. :/

w00t - I won a beta copy of freelancer (and now also a free copy of full retail on US release) and have been playing it for some time. The game truely rocks. I always just over 1/2 way in with outover 20hours played. So we are talking 40hrs gameplay :clap:

Freelancer gives me a semi. In my view Elite was the only proper role-play game I has ever known in that you didn't have a visible character - your actions defined who you were and you were left out there in the wide universe to do what you wanted. Not like DAoC and the like where you have to craft a character with cunning use of numbers, templates and dyed armour.

What concerns me slightly about Freelancer is that you play as a fully-defined character from the outset. You have a name forced on you and we're told he is 'slightly sarcastic'. I don't want that. I want to buy a shitty ship, leave dock and take it from there. Just leave me alone, ffs.

Yeah, I always thought of EVE as the poor man's Freelancer, and although I'm enjoying the Freelancer demo, I'm getting the feeling that it maybe isn't the game I'd hoped it would be. I'll give EVE another look as I believe it's fully downloadable now with 100 free hours of play, or something.

EVE is still in beta but afaik the latest release date is March.
