If only insurance weren't so stupidly overpriced for young people.
Still, least I take comfort in not owning a camp-mobile. :D

To be honest - no there isn't.

Insurance prices should be determined on the experience of the driver in question (along with the other obvious factors), and should disregard age so much.
Insurance prices would be much more reasonable if it were based primarily on date passed (of your practical test). Reasoning? Well, how stupid is it, allowing a 23 year old person to take and pass their test, and end up paying less than a 19 year old with 2 years solid driving experience?

Drivers aged 17-21 make up 4.4% of the driving population yet -
  • Have 13% of all the accidents
  • Have 17% of all the fatal accidents

The fact of the matter is, that the majority of crashes involve teenagers. And anyway, we all had to go through it.

I remember my first car (14 yrs ago :p ) and I had to pay £130 tpf&t. That was a whole weeks wages ffs. ;)

I understand your frustration Wazz. Its a similar situation with motorbikes, in as much that, a new rider has to do rakes of theory and tests and is then restricted to the size of bike thay can have (I think). But, an old bloke, who may have past his test 15 years ago and not ridden since, can go into Throdgrains shop and buy a Fireblade or whatever and ride off with it.

That to me is madness.

.... Whereas now it costs ~£800, with only myself being a named driver under my father's name. Add at least another £500 onto that. You won't pay under 1k of it - bring it into scale and that's CONSIDERABLY more than a week's wages - more like an entire month's.

Thats fucking awful waz, have you tried Tesco Insurance mate? I always think that young males make safer drivers, young females though....samm forgot to go around a roundabout once. I had almost sold my Intergrale last week but the lad who wanted it couldn't get insured on it, he is a fuckwit though, perhaps for the best.

Ibiza 1.6 Sport W reg - (£1200 fully comp)
Ibiza 1.6 GLXi L reg - (£900 TPF+T) (was £1200 during first year)
Ford Fiesta 1.1 D reg - (£1200 TPF-T) first year

Doesn't seem to matter what car it is or how old it always stays the same (withing reason)

They were under my name as main driver.

Its stupid but its getting better, now about to start my third year of driving its going down a bit.

I get mine through Direct Line and pay it over the year at someting like £90 a month

I drove a 1L saxo for three years, went to insure myself on it for the 4th year, and was quoted £1800 by Elephant
(the car was valued at £2200 when I sold it off in May)

Virtually for the last three years I had been driving a car for free, i was paying for the insurance ;)

Flogged it off, got myself a new Clio 1.5tdci :) checked on Elephant for their insurance quote... £1717 :eek6:

Funny thing being that Elephant is the only company to give me a quote online, serves me right for living in Northern Ireland...

I think Kenny was the Supreme Wibbler by not entirely legitimate means, hence his new and improved title.

back on topic :

Citroen Saxo 1.4 sxi (sexy) £217 per year (fully comp+1 named driver) + protected no claims.

Mitsubishi 2.0 GLXi £232 per year fully comp + protected no claims

Compared with me first car :

Ford Fiesta 997cc £487 fully comp

So I am now insuring 2 cars for less than i used to insure 1
