Your help is needed to help me with ideas I can add to my character concept, if your not a role-player and your reading this, feel free to comment but keep it free of "+1" posts please. Thanks :)

_______

The traditional School of Enchantment teaches the arts of material manipulation focusing its attention on the creation and destruction of matter. The Fae however, specialise in Glamour magic.

The character will essentially become a Fae Retainer, meaning he has become apprenticed to (or working in the service of) a Fae master. In his service he will have been enchanted for some period of time. Because of this enchantment he gains the ability to do certain things usually unavailable to most. He has become “Touched” by the Fae.

The “Fae Touched” are generally treated as the lowest possible level vassals in Fae society, little better than mortals. Any additional respect and consideration afforded them is given entirely out of respect for their Fae patron..

The Fae Retainer must agree to a set of rules and a code of conduct.
(This is an area I need help with..)

Interesting concept. Is this for a pen&paper RPG?

The first thing that came to my mind while reading your description was the Toreador Clan from Vampire. If I had to design the Fae "philosophy", I´d make it rather focused on their art, completely hedonistic, surreal and a little weird. Putting aesthetics and art above anything else creates room for conflicts and odd situations. You might consider a definition of perfect shape, which all members of the Fae are longing for. Maybe a cirlce or a hexagon or something. And of course an anti-shape.. something that represents the bad side.
At any rate, if I read your description correctly, I´d play the character a little bit like an obsessed artist.

...not exactly helpful.. I know, but still my 5c :)

? he is apprentice to a fae master, and so will one day rise to that rank himself, but is the lowest form of fae in the society? What merits him being a apprentice to a master then? maybe have something about how the master saw something special in him?

Basically its for the Live Action Role Play Society i attend. I've written some more stuff up about it, without going into too much detail, the character is currently a Mage in the human school of Magic (following the path of enchantment which focus as I said before on Material and so on.) I thought about reasons why he would get taken on a retainer and then it hit me, my character has never actually found out who his parents where/are, so perhaps it is possibly that he has Fae Ancestry.

My character already has a thing called the Mark of shame (it’s a little tear drop under his right eye) which when mentioned causes great shame and produces high emotions. This can be explained by the fact that his mother was Banished from the court but during my first adventure I went to the Fae Realm and visited the court, then when I returned had the mark of shame (never really got told why – I think it was because they turned me into an elf but I didn’t want to be one so they gave me the choice of either being an elf or the mark of shame hehe :p)

He will never become a Master of the Fae magic, simply because he is not full-Fae, but he will gain a few different spells and possibly abilities over those traditional available in the Human school.

"Background

The Fae are mysterious and magical creatures, often keeping to their own and interfering not in the affairs of Humans. That is the way it has always been, and the way it should of remained. Humans often wander obliviously into the Fae realm, and return without ever realising they had gone.

For a Human and Fae kind to have a relationship of any sort was simply unacceptable. Nevertheless a Lady of the court had one such encounter falling instantly in love, she had not seen such courtesy and allure in any of the Fae before. Their relationship left her banished from the court, it was not proper for a Lady to be involved with Humans.

She fled and walked deeper into the vast forests of the Fae realm. Little did she know, that she was with child. Months passed and the effects of her pregnancy began to show, not wanting her Child to bare the same fate as her she promised that she would send it to the Human realm where it would be safe and would grow up without ever knowing about its true identity and the failings of its mother.

Years passed and the boy became a teenager, going by the name of Charles Humphrey Ian Patrickson he lived on the streets of Eastport stealing what he could and making a few coins shining shoes. After stumbling in to the moot held at Hadsfield during Shielding he followed a group of adventurers into the Fae realm. From the moment he stepped through the portal it was here that he knew he belonged.

After joining the Mages School Charles knew that he wanted to discover the truth about the Fae realm. After apprenticing under the then Witchfinder Mathias Rothbane he joined the School of Enchantment and began his search for the truth..

Rules

The character will essentially become a Fae Retainer, meaning he has become apprenticed to (or working in the service of) a Fae master. In his service he will have been enchanted for some period of time. Because of this enchantment he gains the ability to do certain things usually unavailable to most. He has become “Touched” by the Fae. The “Fae Touched” are generally treated as the lowest possible level vassals in Fae society, little better than mortals. Any additional respect and consideration afforded them is given entirely out of respect for their Fae patron or parentage.

The Fae Retainer must agree to a set of rules and a code of conduct.

Due to the specialised nature of the magic of the Fae the enchanter can no longer produce items at a regular/stable pace, he has to take far longer to create even the simplest of items.

Relinquish the right to any position with in the school or guild."

Cheers for the input so far :)
