I'm doing a research project into achievement motivation in 14/15 year old students at my school as part of my A-level Pe coursework. So far i've got the rest of the literature review under wraps but theres one thing left that i can't seem to find any factual basis for.

I've got to put in a small paragraph about how gender effects Achievement motivation. Ironically my results etc show that it's higher in the male subjects, but i need some solid facts from a theorist anyway, and can't find anything on google :p

If anyone's got any idea, please help! :D

Thanks

i had a think:)
in sociology we learn about education

children are 'socialised', the term for being brought up, and taught values, norms, right/wrong etc...
its clear that in a generalising and majority point of view, girls and boys are socialised in two very different ways
Males are socialised very actively, they're given games to run around and play with, bikes etc etc, this is a view which is why females achieve better in education, as boys are made to sit down and learn going against their socialisation and what they are used too, they will generally crave to run around and take an active role
whereas, females are socialised (again a generalisation and majority) in a passive way... they are given dolls to look after, tea sets etc etc, which is why they achieve better than the majority of boys; as they are used to the passive role

could turn this around, boys achieve and want to be more active in PE; achievement motivation
and majority of girls prefer a more passive approach

make sure you state its a common generalisation though, and does not count for all individuals, or the feminists will come for your penis with their knives
OH! and make sure you use in the sentance when talking about this "this would suggest" etc :p goto use the right language and not saying, this is because, or might criticised

Mikah, Johnson said that the difference in Motivation achievement is due to the parenting style, so in theory you are right. But he found that children who's parents let them go it alone as such produce more achievement seeking children if you get what i mean?

I've written something for you:

There is alot of evidence on how early interactions with male goats, as opposed to female goats, can lead to dramatic improvements in the motivation of 15-35 year old males. It is believed that the companionship and experimentation within those early interactions stimulates a part of the brain linked to career and financial development that otherwise lies dormant for a considerably longer period of time.
