What's new there then Tak ? ;)

Chronic you could just use a blog website, seen a few people make guides on them. Just have to be more text based with a few pictures. but it works well

plus you don't have to rely on Whoodoo, who's probably too busy abusing a whorelock anyway :)

Before you go and duplicate something I've started work on, hold on a moment. :p I've started a DAoC wiki based site, which will hopefully add help for all the MLs. This will allow anyone to contribute to it, anyone to update it, etc. You could add articles to the wiki instead of having to worry about your site design.

I'll post more details later, there are a few things which need sorting with it. You may find a wiki far easier to contribute to, so wait until I've sorted it. :p

did consider that, but i dont like wiki's
(have one at work for various things and dont like the way you navigate add new things, didnt really spend very long on it as i wanted a quick place to pool info)
also bear in mind its only webspace i have available not a server, not sure how that affects things with php etc

If you want this to be a success - don't start from scratch!

Use a proven system instead of trying to invent your own (or in this case, make others do it). Afterall, you want to spend your time writing guides about ToA - not coding PHP.

If you don't like Wiki as a content manege system (CMS), then search the web and find a CMS you do like. There is tons of them - try out a few.
I might suggest you look for:

- How easy is it to install?
- How is it to upgrade?
- How easy is it to add content (articles)?
- How is the interface to costumize it's design/layout?

All the free CMS have a goal to make these points possible to do for even a beginner (read: beginners that know what RTFM means). So, if you as the owner of your site can get it going, you can also keep it running. Afterall, you don't want the site to die out in half a year when Whoodoo nolonger have time to maintain it and there is a critical bug in the site that has to be fixed.

So... start looking, find one you can install and maintain yourself and then go ahead and put up alot of articles. :)

A wiki can be a damn fast way of adding information. All you have to do is either create a link to a new page, or go to a non-existant page, add the new content and you're done. It also allows a wider variety of people to edit the content, unlike VoS which is now dead as the main author no longer updates it.

Its OK doing sites that have user feedback, however for someone like Chron, who run more MLs than Ive had hot dinners, it just ends up as a flame war forum for people who think they know better. You will have the assholes saying "wtf i can wtfpharm that with my supp sm n bot!" rather than chrons view of more than 2 people doing it as a realm.

VoS hasnt been updated in eons, and is still a decent source of information on the whole. TOAScrolls started out well, but again it became full of whinging idiots and people who couldnt be arsed to read threads by previous posters.

Set it and forget it IMO Adil, just change what you want from it, you can always redirect to a forum elsewhere or ask for emailed comments.

a wiki with a set number of editors who you can email feedback to put on the site would be good. Then if people get tired of it you can get others to look after it.

TOA isn't changing anywhere near as much as it was back when VoS was started either so it shouldn't be quite so big a job once the content's in there.

A Wiki would be an excellent tool for all sorts of guides, but you would
want to look for one which requires user authentication. Having a 100%
open Wiki isn't such a great idea in my opinion. I'm modifying PHP Wiki
myself, as I couldn't find one I liked. If anyone knows of an authenticated
Wiki with some admin control, please let me know :)
