Quite simply a Ranger cannot stand upto a tank or any other melee fighter class One on One so of course he woudl stay in towers etc.

They aren't gimped in bgs. In 50 rvr they are since no one would take them instead of a merc since a merc offer same damage, if not more, and have access to banelord and Charge.
