Screenie says Your crystal shield fades. or whatever so no they weren't. That's a max crit. Oh and resists don't matter all that much with bolts since it's only half fire dmg.

Looks like your shield failed just before the bolt hit. If they're not up, bolts hit for sick damage.

Shields would have to be down for that sort of damage. i hit for around 1300 non crit on casters with shields down so just add a good crit and u get 1715 damage.

Shields up, we had a rebuff 2 mins ago in the water when disembarking from the boat, shield fading was bladeturn when I got that mezzbraking pet.

Alaron constanly hits my ranger for 900 and then sum with his spec bolt, so sure its possible with a massive crit to get that sort of damage.

Whenever my BT goes down from damage I get "The blow was absorbed by a magical barrier". When BT times out I get no message at all.
However when my abs or shield times out I get "Your crystal shield fades."

Either you have different messages and that bolt was bugged or you either forgot or misspressed your abs buff and the bolt was just a max crit. Abs matters way more than AF when it comes to bolts.

The screenie says, "The blow was absorbed by a magical barrier" and just beneath it "Your crystal shield fades" its is the BT popped, that is the message you get then.

When a shield fades it says either "Name shield fades" or "The protection around name fades" or sumthing like that.
Crystal shield is BT.

As Adorith said, your self absorption shield is what greatly reduces bolt damage. The screenie shows that either your AF or your abs shield faded before I hit you. When something pops your BT it won't display the "your crystal shield fades" message. Anyway, 1715 is still about 100 points below my cap

I didn't think you could get a higher crit in RvR than 50%+1 of your base dmg.. wtf? ^^
