Wave all you want and what you want, but you DON'T call Scottish whisky, whiskey(with an e) in any circumstance

It's basic whisky knowledge!

ah but the english do not nessersarily define scotch as scotish,! :p

scotch in england is used to defines a "quality" "old" bottle/glass of whisky or whiskey! so again check your facts before waving your fist at others.!

so there is absolutly nothing wrong with saying scotch whiskey! scot. would be a different matter.

also there seems to be some idea amongst some of you that 24 year old whisky in it self = good whisky, or defines quality in any sence..It dosent!
thats also why if you notice i said a good bottle of 24 in my joke!

There is only one sort of scotch, as scotch means, scottish whisky. What the hell are you talking about?

The facts are what they are based on whisk(e)y knowledge.

Scotch, scottish whisky, irish whiskEy.

What english, meaning UK, define as scotch doesn't mean anything in what is/isn't the real deal.

A 24 year old doesn't necessarily mean "quality", but in most cases it does and in any case sure as hell beats any cheap whisk(e)y around.

Cheap nasty whisky is ... well, nasty. Teachers takes like it was made from distilled lion urine, sunbaked weasel testicles, earthworm sour mash, and elephant cum.

but lamp Being English "I'm guessing" and for them to use this term wich may be similar to the branding of scotish whisky, surely that's not for you to deside weather or not they should do so or not ?

it derives from the upper class victorian era, that the term scotch was assosiated with a fine old glass of whisky or whiskey and not the country of origen.

I'm English...well actually, my ancestors were Scottish. I agree with what Toto said. Scotch is pretty much universally recognised as scottish whisky. Thats why its called Scot...I give up.

Mainly because we're not in the victorian era, we're not all english, and scotch is never from ireland.

Even in the victorian era, if it was called whisky, it was most likely irish, as in the olden day some irish whiskey was written without the e.

But scotch, has never been referred to anything except scottish.

Prove me wrong, show me some facts, but that's how it's always been.

Damn right. Whisky from Ireland is always referred to as "Irish Whisky" never "Scottish Whisky".

Why are you arguing instead of drinking?

We went to an irish bar, olgaline was supposed to buy, ordered a round of scotch and now we have to take him to a hospital with an acute case of "barstool up his a**" :D

with that you'd be wrong as well.. ;)
scotch can mean a couple more things than scotish..

No, once again, it's from scotland.

Scotch Whisky, Irish Whiskey, or in some very rare cases, Irish Whisky.

Whiski is right out.

Scotch 13
Definition: of or relating to or characteristic of Scotland or its people or culture or its English dialect or Gaelic language; "Scots gaelic"; "the Scots community in New York"; "`Scottish'' tends to be the more formal term as in `The Scottish Symphony'' or `Scottis

ooops !?

now that we've got that out of the way, lets get back to buisness:

1. Just becuase a lableling law says that only whisky distiled and bottled in scotland can use the word scot, scotch, scottish on thier labels doesnt in anyway obscure a slang term to derive from it, as is the case with the way the british upperclass in the old days and maybe still adopted the term.

so to clear up a few things Yes only scottish whisky can have the label scotch, and I've never said otherwise btw..

but this doesnt change "and altho i cant find any online proof" i know I'm right here, the british upper class used the term scotch to define a good glass of whiskey "this is a good scotch" even if it wasnt actually from scotland. this was prob due to the fact that scotish whisky was and well is viewed as the "finest" so it was used as a comparative compliment to the spirit in question. get it ?

or is this too much to ask to see the difference ?

Well, there is no Finnish whisk(e)y, and it's a good thing. Don't know where you got that idea.

Well there is, it's made in scotland and bottled in finland...rather nice too.

Wouldn't touch danish whiskey with a 10 foot pole.

On the matter of: "Scotch 8 Definition: whiskey distilled in Scotland; especially whiskey made from malted barley in a pot still "

They even write scottish whiskY wrong, so that kinda bonks that info, EVEN IF they say the same thing, scotch is scottish, nothing more.

Now, if some posh people in the UK call anything "scotch" that even resembles whisk(e)y, they are probably the same people who call JD whiskey, when infact it's bourbon. So what the f*ck do they know?

Slang has nothing the hell to do with what is RIGHT.

High Class Brits do not call whisky scotch.

At least we can make our own whisky not mearly borrow barrals from scotland.
also if you've never tasted it you really dont have any merrit to judge what you dont know, infact it seems kinda arrogant and ignorant.

oh and here's another scotch definition for you.
