have one question tho.

how the hell do you get more skills for your weapons?

i have one for pistols and one for melee but nothing for my so called rifle.

and lol at the crafting. had my first go just now making my own vest, and it took 10 minutes?!?

and i'm also running out of ammo because i cant get enough income to pay for both that and the retarded horse feed. think i'm gonna ditch that horse. its costing more then its worth.

Weapon books come from the associated merchants, all the basic stuff is available in the starter towns.

Crafting is a background action, you set things crafting, then forget about them while you play, or log off, crafting never stops and you can queue 20 items.

Ammo is best crafted, scavenge the parts and craft the ammo, basic ammo is very easy to make.

Craft horse feed, the mats are common and the skill book is easy to come by.

If you think horse feed is expensive, try bikes, or interceptors, they guzzle gas and some of the top end stuff is quite hard to come by.

uff. Not sure what to say really. Controls are dreadful, i mean the worst I have ever used and the graphics look like something from a playstation game.

1 evening is more than enough on it.

This is a common complaint, hear it all the time from new players and you are right. Controls ain't great, nor are the graphics, but they are being improved all the time and are far better than at release.

If thats enough for you to condemn a game after a few hours play then this is definitely not the game for you. This happens a lot, recently a lot of people came on the free trial, bitched that FE didn't spoon-feed them like WoW does QQ'd and left, no-one missed them in the slightest.

Takes a while to find the depth this game has, your not even scratching the surface in one evening.

Niche game for a specific audience and it definitely won't appeal to everyone. It's old school mmo gaming which is not as attractive as some people think it might be or remember, FE might have been a smash it it had released 8-10 years ago ;)

yep, it probably would. now tho it just seems slightly dated from the get go :)

but i'm determined to give it a fair chance so i'l stick with it for now atleast.

/edit: and well, i hate crafting so i probably wont touch that anymore.

Well, playing EvE now and loving the depth. In FE, trying to shoot something that is lagging all over the place when (due to graphical bugs) you aren't even sure what weapon you are using gets old very fast. The graphics aren't just bad they are shocking, especially when you look at the system requirements. I am actually amazed they had the balls to release it.

Ofc if people like it then fair enough, I just thought it was terrible.

graphics arent that bad. i have everything turned to max and its pretty ok.

tho i'm starting to get to a point where i CANT play anymore because my gear is getting useless from all the deaths and i cant repair them or afford replacement gear.

pretty annoying to get whooped by a thrash mob 3 lvl's below me because its lagging around so much i cant hit it with my utterly useless crossbow.

finding it harder and harder to give the game that fair chance.

Repair kits are basic crafting, they are really easy to make. I don't want to sound condescending, but this is the most basic of things to do in FE.

A lot of players complain about lag, i think some of it might be down to the games optimisation, it seems a real system-whore of a game. I have a solid PC and rarely experienced lag outside of the busy towns tbh, but i think the listed system requirements are way too low to play this game properly, which is pretty ludicrous tbh. There is a crappy bug where mobs rubber-band occasionally and there was a bug where a mob would just stand there and let you kill him without reacting.

And yes, the crossbow is sometimes shockingly bad.

The FPS combat system is annoying at times, no question.

Just bought it yesterday - pretty cool so far - excellent crafting :)

How bad is it to be melee reliant? Seems a cheap option to me with no ammo costs?

but its not actual lag i'm getting. i mean, I'M not lagging, its the mobs that glide around like there standing on ice.

/edit: you know what the worst part of it is tho when it comes to my gear decay... i just hit lvl 5 lol... i'l be running on useless gear before i hit lvl 6 :D

/edit2: new trial keys available on FE homepage.

Melee is great, but you'll need good equipment to make the most of it.

Also melee was pretty naff in pvp when i tried it as ranged dudes will just kite you in circles.

I have replaced every item of kit about 2-3 times per level, often i'll repair it, but i just find you get equal level drops quite often, get something from a mission or just wind up crafting something pretty nifty, at level 23 i think i went through enough shoes to make Emelda Marcos wince;)

i can't afford that :(

only cash income i get is from missions. i have yet to loot any cash from a mob and the missions i get usually involve mobs 5+ levels higher then me so i die, and die, and die, and die, and die, and die some more.

and as the ingame map is shit i dont wanna go to another town as i probably wont find my way back so i'm more or less stuck where i am untill i either get bored of dying and quit or reroll and try again.

Are we all on 1 server? Or are the different sections = different servers?

I havent noticed much lag yet in Sector 1?

Melee is great so far - no ammo costs and seems pretty easy to kill stuff - I think the game is balanced by the big defensive penalties for using guns.

Oddly some mobs dont seem to be able to hurt me? those 'bladedancer?' type human mobs seem to only do me 1 damage max which is odd?

I havent spent any AP on skills yet - just using my base 15 melee.

wonder if they balance the mobs by how many AP's you have spent, because the same mobs i killed easily before seem to get harder after i have spent a load of AP's.

I have spent APs - maxed Int/Per for crafting - I'm just wondering if melee is a bit OP in pve just now? As for pvp I'll be the buffer of a group - if anyones silly enough to get close I'll give em a good kicking :p

Anyone else still playing?

I find I like it quite a lot - its engaging rather than compelling but theres something about sandbox games that really appeals to me - a certain freedom to do your own thing :)

EEK! It has the same interface style as SWG? I played SWG in closed beta and a little bit into retail but I just couldn't get past how dreadful the interface was.

yeah, exactly the same "over the shoulder" camera, and even as far as i could see the exact same skill system. IE you press the skill and then fire your weapon to use it.

tbh i started to suspect that they bought SOE's SWG engine for this game its that similar.

Hmm I didnt think so and I played SWG right up to the combat rehash disaster from the start of retail.

SWG had all those radial dials with actions on - theres none of that in Fallen Earth.

It has a pretty mmo standard ui of toolbars you can either click on or type the number to use?

Camera angle is the standard of MMO's in that you can zoom into first person or zoom out to third person. You are not stuck in 'over the shoulder' mode.

Edit: The only real comparison to old style SWG is that they are both skill based 'classless' games which imo is a plus.

SWG was far more user friendly and polished than Fallen Earth, hell the crafting was better in SWG too.

i'm basing it on the "new" SWG, not pre NGE.

play SWG now and it is very similar.

no its not a complete ripoff if thats what you thought i meant, but it is very close to the same in many ways.
