My xperia z2 is dying. I dropped it about 18 months ago, since when it's exhibited a fault where the backlight fails, only returning when I press the bottom of the phone hard. It used to do it once per blue moon, now it's several times a week, and much harder to fix each time.

So do I get a nexus 5x, 6p, or the new pixel? I like the look of the 6p and tbh I've spent a lot of money lately and therefore like the price too (will be buying outright). Is it any good? Main uses are taking pics, gps (strava etc), browsing, the usual. I prefer vanilla android.

Oneplus 3, or Pixel if you have money to burn.

The Pixel looks really good but a bit expensive, depends if you make use of its features though. Personally I am getting a bit tired of phone tech now, its all amazing in the first few months then its just back to texts, calls and browsing which any old phone can do.

oneplus 3.

Speaking of Sony quality though, my missus z3 compact's screen has raised in the middle, so the glass no longer makes clean contact with the screen. Looking online it's not uncommon.

Just ordered a pixel xl 32gb in black. £720 from carphone warehouse. Not money I wanted to spend but I can't find a shop selling the nexus 6p anywhere (I want it in my hand rather than online).

Oh well, I didn't want that vr headset anyway...

Will be interested to see how you get on with the Pixel as I will be due a new work phone soon, so will have a look at that and the XZ.

And probably buy the XZ :)

I had to make a choice quickly, my current phone is about to die on its arse. Shame really as it's a good phone.

This phone is really pretty chilled about just how good it is. There's no lag, anywhere. Everything is smooth. Apps come up in split seconds. Notifications are perfect. It's just a lovely bit of kit.

The camera is pretty damn ace too. Zoom in on this, which I took today while out running. Loads of detail. In low light (flash in my room while watching telly) the picture quality is way, way better than any phone I've had before. It uses some kind of fancy HDR thing as standard, which you'll probably just about make out if you look at the leaves and highlights. You can turn it off but I haven't bothered yet.

Very impressed. The only negative point really is that there's no case in the box. A slip-over cover would have been nice.

ive been waiting for this phone as I broke my current one (htc 10) it fell of the back of the sofa, cracked the screen then got wet.

The price is putting me off a little, although I can get it for £661 with a discount through work. with your limited time with the phone, would you say it was worth the price? my track record with phones probably means I should lean in the directionof a water resistant phone but hey ho.

Yes, it is incredibly smooth. No lag on anything, ever. Apps open almost instantly, and installing apps takes a fraction of the time I'm used to from my previous phones. Fingerprint sensor is amazing, some apps (Lastpass for instance) let you do fingerprints rather than passwords. You can also use the fingerprint sensor to pull notifications down. Camera is pretty much the best phone camera ever. Screen will give you sunburn on full brightness. Speaker is very loud and has a lot of bass, I just wish there were two of them. Oh and the assistant is scarily accurate. When driving, with the phone on the passenger seat, I can say something like "Ok Google, play Journeyman album by Eric Clapton on Spotify" and it'll just do it instantly. I think that must be a 7 or 7.1 thing because my 6.1 phone won't do it with Spotify.

I think my only real criticism is that without a case, it's hard at night to know if you're holding it upside down until you go to turn it on.

Nokia Lumia's never let me down before, so keeping it as a backup is great, then an Iphone 5s and a 7.

Friends with their androids always seem troublesome, would never. Just an unreliable system over all.

Cheers Tom. I got one today and am happy with it so far. It's going to take a bit of getting used to in terms of the fingerprint scanner. I keep touching the empty bottom bezel to unlock it lol.

Not too keen on the new wifi and mobile signal bars, the solid blocks look clunky.

Camera is very impressive.
