Ok, I'm getting bored of my standard dinner food, so can anyone suggest some recipes?

Some rules:

  1. must be preparable in less than 20 minutes
  2. must need fewer than 5 ingrediants
  3. must be hassle free and not need special implements

So, for instance, tonight I had a simple meal of Tuna Steak, fried in Olive oil, and served up with a vegetable peas/broccoli/beans that was cooked in the microwave (packaged veggies from Asda). Total time to cook was about 20 minutes, and topped with seafood sauce and seasalt.

1 recipe per post please, and simple cooking instructions, the kind of thing that you don't have to write down before cooking.

If you can stretch to 25 mins, a Frey Bentos with a tin of pea's and a small tin of maris peer potato's is lubberly jubberly.

Get yourself a steamer, vegetables taste way better, only takes 10 minutes (plus 5-10 for the water to initially boil).

Fresh Fish, light covering of oil, put in top layer of steamer, done in 15 minutes.

Veggies in second layer, takes same time as fish.

Get some ready made egg pasta, only takes 2 minutes to simmer cook.

Get some ready made pasta sauce, nuke for 2 minutes.

Another great meal is cottage/shepherds pie, if you don't mind a bit of preparation. You can part cook, then keep it in the fridge and, and warm up for 20 minutes whenever.

Great thing about cooking it yourself rather than the ready made ones is you can put lots of stuff in the mince meat part, not only for flavour (tomato sauce), but make it into a full meal (peas and grated carrot).

Preparation is simple; cook potatoes, add butter/milk and mash up. Fry up mince meat (beef or lamb) with chopped onion, put into oven dish with veggies (peas, grated carrot), add some tomato sauce, stir up, cover with mashed potato.

To cook; put in oven for 15-20 minutes, add some grated cheese on top for final few minutes.

TdC's "I cba to properly cook dindins" spicy stir-fried chicken, served with noodles.

needed:
  • packet (or portion) of "chinese" egg-noodles. the kind that you boil water, turn off the heat, add the noodles, drain after 5 mins, you get the idea.
  • one nice chicken (or duck or turkey, ostritch, whatever meat you want) fillet
  • one red paprika
  • one bottle of "Flower brand Sweet and Sour Chilli sauce" or something like it. the bottle lasts approx 30~40 x the meal, iow ages so you can make lots :)
  • one bottle of ketjap manis or equiv. bottle last as long as the above or longer unless you start using it in everything like me :)
  • a deep pan to boil water in to fix the noodles
  • your fave fryingpan or, preferably a wok
  • dash of olive oil

    preparation:
  • chop the paprika into your fave shape
  • chop the chicken into bite-sized portions
  • put water on to boil
  • get your fave pan good and hot, chuck the chicken in and stir-fry briskly till lightly done. chuck in the paprika, give it a brisk frying and lower the heat. open up your bottle of S&S and pour a royal mmmm 5 tablespoons (depending how much "sauce" you want) over the chick/pap mix. counter the spicy sauce with some sweet ketjap to your taste. stir it about, then leave it so it can cook to your taste.
  • about now your water should be boiling. turn off the heat, chuck in your portion of noodles and do whatever you do when you have to wait for a couple of minutes. TdC's tip: great time to open up a beer.
  • stir the noodles loose with a fork, drain into a collander, put on your plate. pour the sweet and sour chicken/paprika on top. take into the livingroom, establish yourself in front of the telly (not forgetting your beer) and enjoy!!

please note: the paprika is supposed to be "a dente", but cook to your taste. same goes for the noodles. you can use whatever meat you want, but please note the cooking times.

What kind of fish do you favour? I prefer the chunky, 'meaty' kind of fish. I have a steamer, its great for doing broccoli.

Just a slab of cod fillet will do, can be very meaty, or hake or plaice. I don't really like fish myself, but I cook for my boys too. Some fish can be expensive, so make sure you get a fair sized piece.

More chunky fish; tuna, swordfish, etc. Better the fry that up.

1 onion
1 clove garlic
1 tin tomatoes
Some mushrooms
Some Bacon
Pasta

1) Put pan on and heat water for pasta

2) Heat Olive oil in frying pan

3) Chop onions and garlic and start frying in olive oil, chop bacon and mushrooms and add to frying pan

4) Wait a bit

5) When mushrooms and bacon are brownish add tomatoes to pan and reduce heat so it simmers VERY gently

6) Start cooking pasta (assumes dried pasta ie about 10 mins cooking)

7) Throw some herbs into sauce... schwartz italian seasoning works or if not some parsley and basil will be fine

8) when pasta is cooked drain and dump into sauce... mix.... serve.

Lovely :)

Edit: Trust me ;)

I like my own turbo chilli when I cba to wait.

Get a pan on the heat, put a bit of oil in there. Pop in some quorn mince (cooks nice from frozen and doesn't carry many risks if you don't cook it through properly), an oxo cube, half a packet of chilli mix (I like colemans) and a tin of beans. In another pan boil some water and put in a couple blocks of fine egg noodles. Cook both pans for about 5 minutes tops and put one on top of the other in a bowl. Really filling, tasty and no time :)

Would you kindly do me the honour of excusing my respiration ?

In addition my I allude to your grey matter being remarkably reminiscent of a canine stool and your sexual relations being purely confined to your immediate relations, in particular the maternal, but with a strong likelihood that the paternal relation may have entered all five digits within your colon.

Ahh... cooking a subject close to my heart, one of my fave hobbies outside of puters!

Ok, at one recipe a post this may be difficult!

Ok, firstly how's about some egg fried rice?

Needs:

Rice (pref American easy cook type)
2-3 Large Eggs
Sesame oil
1 Small Onion (or spring onions are best but fiddly)
Salt & black pepper
Oil of choice (groundnut is best, but *not* Olive, it burns at wok temparatures)
Wok (pref) or Large frying pan
Spatula (metal pref)

Boil up some rice (the night before is best, & leaving it in the fridge, but doesn't have to be), drain, rinse with cold water if not previously prepared.

Chop onion into small 'cubes'.

Beat eggs with some salt, and a small amount of sesame oil (it's powerful stuff!).

Heat wok (highest heat you can do), add oil, and add onions with salt & black pepper, until they are cooked. Add beaten egg, and fry.

Try to keep it in small bits, and not make an omlette!

Once the egg's cooked, add the rice to the wok, and heat throughly for about 2-3 minutes.

This will feed you as a side dish for about 2-3 meals! Plus you can 'experiment' making 'special fried rice', basically add veggies & meat (meat before veggies always).

More to follow!

Tangy fried chicken & omlette:

Needs:

2-4 Chicken breast fillets
3-5 Eggs
Plain flour
Salt & Pepper
Nandos peri-peri or similar chilli sauce (extra hot is best, but I seem to have an asbestos lined mouth!)
half - 1 sweet pepper
half - 1 small onion
Chillies (for the brave!)

Quantity depends on how many you are cooking for (1-2)

Beat eggs with salt & pepper + chilli sauce to taste.

Preheat shallow frying pan to a medium temperature, with some vege oil.

Slice vege's into strips.

Coat Chicken with flour, then egg mixture, add to frying pan, cook for about 2-3 minutes each side, then leave on some kitchen roll for the oil to to drain off.

Add vege's to frying pan, with some salt & pepper, leave for about 1 minute, then add remainder of eggs, cook as you would normally do an omlette.

More to follow!
