anyone realised how fucked up it is?

if you look into someones eyes, they look into yours, then you know someone else conciously realises youre there. ive always found that odd. two complete strangers have shared a moment in time. both realising each other exists and knowing youre both thinking the same thing.
usually if im stood around i always try to hold a gaze with someone. the thing for me is both realising each other exists. yet you may never speak to them or even stranger,y ou look at each other for more time than you even speak.

its fucking great being in a crowd of people and catching someones eye. youll never speak or go near each other. youre both doing your own thing in your own group. youve got no fucking idea who each other is. but once you catch eyes thats it. every now and then you both do it and thats your little moment in time together.

fuxking hell, these 24 hour stretches of not talking to anyone is cracking me up!

sometimes i think we shouldnt take for granted the ocassions we have with people. the same thing will never happen again, but again 2 random people will have the same memory.

No tris-, you are thinking "hmm, I'd like to tap that ass" and she is thinking, "why is that freak staring at me"

You live in Preston. It's hardly the murder capital of the UK.

And how do chavs make eye contact, don't the hoods and caps get in the way?

"Right...no more drugs for this guy!"

Actually Lamp while you "notice their existance", about 90% of people are thinking "What the f*ck is that weirdo looking at?" or "Look at that moron!".

5% probably just zone out in crowds like i do and don't even notice you.

One thing I noticed is if you are talking to someone and look directly at them they hold your gaze for a few seconds then avert their eyes. It occurs even more so when you look at a stranger.

I think its because people feel uncomfortable with it. I noticed if someone is feeling uncomfortable and averting their eyes etc, I look away and they then focus on me.

One easy way to experiment is when you are at the traffic lights. Don't stare with evil intent, but just look at the driver on your left/right. They will make eye contact, then start playing around with their cd player and looking out the other window etc

That's actually the same thing as is with dogs, domination.

If you avert your eyes, you're succuming(sp?) to the other person.

It's funny to find what people "suddenly" start doing when you stare. I do it all the time, and it's a powerful psych tool. "Yeah, avert your eyes..you're mine now b*tch" :D

Aye :)

I like getting eye-contact with strangers, it's special in some way. But I also avert my eyes even tough I sometimes try to fight it.

What gets me is when sometimes you do get that eye contact, and then you both look away, and then look at each other again. It could be that somebody is looking again to say 'Jeeesus Christ, I hope he has money for facial surgery' but then again sometimes it's a 3-time gaze, though only with members of the opposite sex :p

thank you.

for fuck sake, one person out of 10+ realises what im talking about.

this place is sadly, going right down the shitter. i dont mind a bit of a laugh, a bit of off-topic-shitfest but sometimes it would be nice to talk serious.

where the fuck is noblock, hes always good for some philosophy and probably has a point worth listening to on this topic.

Heh, a bit OT but when i was a uni student, I used to attend this studying center everyday (well, in fact everyday within the exams month :p ).
And there was this girl who always used to sit a couple of desks in front of me.
Jesus! She was so so so ugly, that i couldnt stop looking at her to check if she really was that ugly. I always had to make efforts of selfcontrol not to rise my gaze from the books and look at her, specially when I thought that she might get a wrong idea of my looks.
In one of those looks, she looked back at me in the eyes. I swear I could see the sorrow in her eyes, like if she knew that she was so ugly ppl used to stare at her. Made me think a couple of things about myself... :ninja:

My wife used to go mad at me for not making eye contact, Now that I do I agree it is special in a weird way, especially with a stranger.

For just one moment you are sharing something so small, but I always remember the people that make eye contact back at me.

lol yris i know what you mean, when i was australia i was going in to town on the bus and this guy seemed to find my accent ammusing anyhoo he kept glancing over and smiling, and i saw him so naturally smiled back...anyhoo he gets off the bus and as he walked passed my window he looked up and we both waved "cya" at eachother even though we never even spoke it was just from looking at eachother and him conveying the "your accent is like mary poppins and you come out with wierd stuff" look and me doing the "Im on holiday im excited about everything, man this is fun!!" look.

anyhoo it was like 4 years ago and i still remember that guy who smiled and waved and who i only actually saw for about 4 minutes....some people i knew for years and i either forgot them completely or they are just amorphous blobs in my memory.
