My pc blew up (the mobo i think) the other week and now with my shiny new netbook arriving tomorrow I was thinking of a way I can get my old info off my drive.

its a standard sized IDE 80GB maxtor and i was wondering what size of external caddy (USB) im going to need?

If its a laptop HDD you need a 2.5" caddy, if its a desktop HDD you need 3.5" - very often you can get a caddy with both fittings anyway

That will do any IDE hard disk and any SATA hard disk (the connection for laptop and desktop SATA is the same) - the cheap ones on ebay normally dont last terribly long, but if you're only planning on using it to pull data off as a one off, go for it.
