thoughts / opinions?

My Vodafone contract is finally up in a couple of months (YEEHHHHAAAAA!!!) so I'm going over to a SIM only deal. Data is the primary use, so it needs to be fast and reliable (Vodafone are fuck-ass at this). EE picked up a couple of awards for 4G coverage and reliability, with Three in second place. Three is cheaper, but 4G is limited to major Scottish cities unlike EE who are much further on with coverage.

So, anyone with EE?

I am on a Virgin sim only deal now (who use EE's network), it is £15 a month and it is unlimited everything and it is superb, reception kicks O2's arse in every single way. I always lost 3g browsing on O2 but it is always there now.

What about Three then? That was my first choice, but then I thought about EE after reading some reviews.

Ee have been consolidating network masts in areas that tmob and orange both had them in, so their coverage had got worse, they also have lots off complaints about the ability to call and text over good old 2g.

Three is good for me, but I'm in London. Get a few test Sims for each network and test?

Yeah, I'm going over to a 30 day SIM only deal (why I got a 24 month contract is beyond me) for that very reason. I'll try Three then, if it ends up sucking then I can move around.

Seems I'm in the minority, haven't had that many problems with them.

Only issue I can think of is when my last contract ran out and I upgraded to a new phone, they kept charging me for both contracts for about 3 months after that. I got it refunded, after about 4 months.

EE has been great for me. I'm on their "4G extra" or whatever it is. It's faster than I'd ever need and always a great reception. I'm in North East London BTW.

I'm on Three and it pisses on anything Vodafone. Had zero problems with reception and the internet is so much better, constant 3G/H coverage. Only downside though is no 4G in my area yet but its going to be available sometime this year for no extra cost so happy days.

Been on EE for about a year now, and they've been great. Stuff I like

- 4G is pretty much everywhere now, and blazing fast when you do get it. Got 70Mbit in the Trafford Centre, and about 20 here in Stafford. I rarely bother with Wifi at home, as it's faster to stay on 4G.
- 3G is everywhere else. Can't remember the last time I saw either an E or, the Vodafone speciality, a G above the signal bar on my phone.
- If you travel a lot like I do, they are superb. Cheaper calls than Vodafone and they won't let you use data until you buy a bundle, so you can't run up a bill.
- Most of the staff I've dealt with have been knowledgeable and friendly, and dealt with any issues quickly. Thankfully they seem to have kept the Orange call centres and got rid of most of the T Mobile ones.
- Bills are much cheaper than Vodafone, especially when abroad.

The not so good:

They cocked up my transfer from Orange to EE quite badly, was fully compensated for it though.

Kevin Bacon.

The network fell over for an evening about a month ago, meaning I couldn't use my phone for a while. They got it up and running again reasonably quickly.

Best network I've been on so far (out of Vodafone O2 and them). Not tried 3 but my sisters family have just moved away from them as the customer service was bollocks, so doubt I will.

Poor service in my area and some other issues so moved off EE and to GG.

Just to expand, like Bodhi, I think the only reason they cocked my contract switching over was cause I went from Orange to EE.

After roughly 8 cold calls from Three today they will never get my business again, fucking pricks

Oh yes, I forgot about their customer service, it is mind blowingly bad, imo avoid Three like the plague and they were the worst I have had for signal quality as well (Central England). So, best so far Virgin (EE), then O2 (second but a long way behind EE), then miles behind the other two in every respect in third is Three out of the most recent providers I have had.

Hmmm. Well seeing that I can chuck them after 30 days then I'll take my chances.

I was considering EE but I couldn't find the information I needed on their website. All I wanted to know was, how expensive is EE data roaming, compared to Vodafone? For £3 a day (only when used) on Voda, I get to use my full internet allowance. The EE website seemed to suggest I had to sign up and pay a fixed monthly fee for the same, although forum search results said different.

Also, their website is one of those "huge graphics sliding in from every direction" type affairs, which I hate. So in the end, I just renewed with Vodafone and got an Xperia Z2. I considered a SIM-only deal but the phone was cheaper when subsidised.

Their website is annoying, particularly on a tablet. They need to simplify.

3's website is a lot flatter and less ..... wanky.

Maybe its location, but I have always been with Vodafone (over 20yrs) and never had a problem. Guy who works for me is on O2 and never seems to have a signal

Yep bodhi makes some good points. I never had transfer problems and I'm loving their service. Had the one outage but that for me was data only and we had wifi at the time.
A couple of my friends have slow broadband so I just jump back on 4G.
