It would save alot of dull, uninteresting, and (to certain extents) annoying threads.

It's a worn out procedure; newbie comes into forum, oblivious to what the regulars are like, 99% of the time NOT bothering to read Kez's sticky (I swear that thread should be renamed to 'NEWBIES READ THIS THREAD FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!!'), then starts a new thread advertisting something, gets flamed, gets upset, brings his mates into the forum and the mindless drivel and petty insults (from both sides) follow. The new'uns will start to make biased generalisations about the entire forum, and eventually someone starts a new thread to bicker about it (pls note that's not my intention of writing this).

I can't blame anyone for this, else a similar procedure would probably follow here, in this thread. I shan't call anyone 'whinging children' nor 'elitist twats' or whatever. No-one is in the right. All I ask, is that advertisers or clowns get ignored/put down gently by the regulars, (until we can bash it into everyone's head that the GF actually *does* need a moderator or three). There are many other forums that welcome those kind of antics.

I'm not all against flamewars - just look at the immense entertainment provided by all those Perp/Stu/Mr B/Bodhi/Exor vs. Slic3r/Glynn3rs quarrels of old. What I am tired of, are both newbie vs. regular arguments and all the bitchiness that follows. Make it stop, guys...

Well they usually have about 600 posts by the time I reach them, so I never reply or insult anyone.

The newbies also never come back, maybe due to the extreme flammage? So that makes it a good thing, yes?

I think its making me very sleepy all this talk of newbies.

If newbies want to post then they should get the lay of the land first by reading what goes on here..not by placing ads or askin the old CS questions etc etc etc ad nauseum

The fact that 90% of its mindless drivel should soon bring then to their senses and perhaps they will bugger off to whatever rock they crawled from.

ah, but I think we can change the way we react to general idiocy. perhaps holding back unless someprat makes it a repeated offence? this jumping on newbies [and some not-so-new heh] making a mistake is starting to get really old imo.

thing is, the people who react badly to our tender hints are [once again i m o] well aware they're doing something 'wrong'. why else react with such passionate anger? why else react at all? still, I could be mistaken heh :)

I normally react very nicely and point them in the general direction but I get a little hot tempered when they start bossing the regulars round...or telling them how to do things esp when they're newbies ;)

Yes, they should, but they DON'T; it's a proven fact. No use ignoring it either, as people will continue to promote themselves using forums as a medium, no matter how many FAQs or newbie guides get posted. People like Kez have tried, and failed to change much of the attitude around here - I thought it was an excellent idea to start with, but evidence has proven that it hasn't worked long term.

For now, we can only put up with the problem, and mindless abuse only makes things worse.
I doubt many will rejoice if I bring up the moderating idea again, but I still stand by my original proposition, if anyone wishes to elaborate.

A valid point; my explanation for which will have to be put down to ignorance I'm afraid, if it's done as good as you say it has. The point I was getting across is that even if people have read the guide and tried to blend into the background a bit, the spam-happy advertisers among them ignore such information at the expense of having their word and C&Ping it across various forums.

Of course, there aren't strong barriers when it comes to the subject matter of advertisements here; people will flame regardless but the culprits aren't always as guilty as they may seem. Sure when people flog a games magazine on Yahoo auctions and spam it around multiple boards, there is little to debate over. However, on the occasions that BW related/relevant products and services have been advertised, the argument turns ackward and stale when the flames come into it. The former just need stamping out, but the latter often need some more thought and consideration when replying. Or there's always the ignore option...

Thats blatantly the best webcomic ever. Whatever it was before pales in comparison.

As a related note; there's no doubting the utter failure of the newbie guide, all its done is re-assure the fucking regulars whats viable and whats not. The one of two who bothered reading it prior to joining up skulked off despite the Happy Happy Joy Joy welcomes. Yet the lamers still come, like some torrential fucking rain - where cats and dogs once had a popular place in raining phrases, its now more sodding apt to mention lamers and fuckwits.

Its a sign of the times really, the internet is now too freely availible, and any retard can now use what was once a quasi-literate haven.
