Contemplating things and it's funny how some people, even those you only meet like once or twice, can have a big impact on your life...either good or bad, whatever but they change everything be it for a few weeks or longer.

I haven't seen the film eternal sunshine of the spotless mind but from what I gather the concept is having certain memories erased; if you could, and you had had a run in with one of these individuals who puts a black spot on your soul, would you have the memory of them wiped out of your brain?

Are these people valuable lessons in humanity and there to teach us to guard ourselves or are they just human mosquitoes (i.e. of no apparent purpose other than to irritate and inflict injury) that you'd be better off remaining oblivious to?

Personally speaking, I'd wipe the suckers out of my brain...I know people can be shits I don't need to learn that lesson tyvm and I'd prefer to remain unembittered (is that a word?), with some semblance of hope and a small degree of faith in my perspicacity when it comes to human nature.

Yes, absolutely... But then you wouldn't have learnt from the bad experiences, would you?

I don't hold grudges, never did. There are people I dislike, naturally. If you like all people together, you're either brain sick, or faking it.

Regarding wiping people out from memory, I would rather wipe certain events, rather than people. But then we stray into the "what if" thingy, and that's never good for your sanity.

Somtimes it's not a case of having a grudge, personally speaking there have been people I just wish I'd never met, I don't hate them or hold a grudge I just don't like the way they made me feel about other people (or myself) since meeting them...you know what I mean?

It's odd because my family were absolute shockers and there have been people who really did terrible things to me and those people I wouldn't erase, I got through it and am better for it, learned some proper lessons etc etc.

As said before, everything you experience molds you into the person you are today, which I am very happy with. But Sometimes you do get the moments where you look at the person or they enter in your head and think why did I ever bother. In my recent history there are 2 people ones a short term ex gf, who screwed my head up for a long time, but without meeting her I would not have met my fiancée and the other is an on/off friend who just exists to stir up trouble just to make herself the centre of attention, though she has mostly faded away for good, due to everyone else in the group finally realising the same thing I had.

A couple of people from my school days maybe, although since I've not seen nor heard from them since leaving they're pretty much gone anyway, would have been interested to see what direction me life would have taken without them but that's life.

Other than that I'm more or less convinced that i'm the person people would most like to erase from their memory :)

Yep.

And surprinsingly enough, the person i want to erase more from my mind, is the person whom i shared one of my best moments in life.

One girl. Actually she was the one I posted in the EX-GF thread. She really messed me up but that isn't why I would get rid of her. I'd do it because when I met her, I broke up a 3 year long relationship to start going out with her and honestly that is one of the things I've done in my life that I'm least proud of. I've never done anything like it before or since and if I hadn't met her I might never have.

funny how those we'd most like to erase are members of the opposite sex...if we were all gay would we all be happier?

Relationships /friendships with women i have had have never been anything to regret as i still talk see /meet pretty all woman i have entered into relationships with.

The only regrets i have had are male friends, not many i might add, that i wish i could delete perma from my mind. Tbh not many of them but still a couple out there i truly regret ever having met.

I think it's worth them staying there in memory to be honest, you always learn a few things about yourself and the human mind when you meet these kinds of people. I've got at least one from each end of the spectrum and one, what a ****! however it's taught me a bit, be a bit more empathatic possibly and how you should approach situations in a better way and the person from the good end of that who was so good I wish didn't exist to stop my over working brain, that one has taught me a lot about maturity of myself and how to guard/approach things in the future.

All life's lessons :p

Some things you do not need to experience i life. I would imagine a rape victim would probably not have needed to experience it first hand. Now before Cho & Co. get all excited, NO i didn't get raped :)

the discussion is not about wether it happened or not, simply if youd want to remember it.
Rape and incest victims often shut the memory completly out as a defense mechanism, however, it reappears and when it does, it reappears 10 fold. So the question is rather, would a victim of those crimes prefer to remember or forget it?
