Yeah it looks good in that.

I have played Eve, its long and boring to even remotley get anywhere in it, You train in real time you cant have any "fun" doing pvp untill you have a decent ship.

And learning all the ins and outs of it is very complicated, Mind you so is DAoC.

Watching that trailor makes me want to renew my subs actually :)

But it would take you along time to be doing some decent pvp, about 6 months or so I would say

I started playing the trial once and got bored after about an hour, I hear it's very fun once you know what's going on, but cba to get that far.

Downside to Eve is the time it takes to get started, get enough skills to pilot PvP capable ships - you're talking months-years unless they've changed it since I played last which I doubt they have.

2 weeks.

One can get a PVP pilot out of anyone in two weeks, always has.

Sure you can't play with the Tech 3 tengu ships, or blast a hole in the fabric of universe with your titan, but you'll be able to be competant in faction wars and make a good contribution to the fleet operation you're in.

The problem is that most people don't know how, and that's where places like EVE university come into play, research, reading and putting in an effort.

I played it a while back and couldn't get on with it. The UI was a complete mystery to me and I wasn't overly sure what was going on. It looks really good if you can get past the first few hours/days and get into it.

It was an OK gaming experience, if you're into the political/bitching/ganking side of things it's pretty much heaven. Fair fights and honest traders are two things you won't find in EVE :p

The basic problem is that at this stage of the game's life-cycle if you want to compete you have to specialise.

Both untrue'ish :D

There are fair fights when they are organized, otherwise it's ofcourse war :p

Honest traders can be found too, just have to look around, ask and know who you're dealing with.

Specialising isn't a must, it helps you get started faster, but it's not a must.

Also a good selling point for EVE is the new tutorial/career paths. They basically hold your hand a bit, give you the needed gear and all in all are a good place to start.

It's a boring game... mine or PvE (dull as dishwater, once you've killed a few pirates it's just rinse and repeat) not much variety in the game imo

I can honestly say that in the 3 months I have played, I have had more variety than in any other MMORPG

For those who got bored, what did you do? When did you play it?

BEcause from the top of my head, here's some professions/things you can do;

Mine.
Mission (5-7 different styles).
Haul.
Play around the market.
Rat (hunt for NPC and loot)
Enter wormholes for fighting/mining/harvesting.
Scavenge for wrecks.
Research.
Manufacture.
Form your own corporation and do what you want.
Faction warfare.
Career paths.
Hunt for other players.
Bounty hunt.

That's a simple list of solo activities alone.

Scout for haulers.
Scout for fleets.
Fly in fleet ops.
Protect mining ops.
Protect haul ops.
Enter various player events such as tournaments, frigate fights, tourist tours, gift hunts, survival runs etc.
Enter a large coporation and enter the large scale war going about.
Camp a gate as a pirate.

These all activities are fairly easy to get into.

Ofcourse if you don't like flying about in spaceships in an Elite'esque world, then it's not for you :p

Not really. If i go by the list;

Mine. (sure, waiting, that's mining for ya :D)
Mission (5-7 different styles). (pretty straight forward action)
Haul. (warp to zero keeps you busy.)
Play around the market. (well, you can do this while mining/hauling ;))
Rat (hunt for NPC and loot) (clear cut action again)
Enter wormholes for fighting/mining/harvesting. (ESPECIALLY fast-paced, with sleepers on your tail and scanning etc)
Scavenge for wrecks. (moving about, no waiting. More you move, more you get)
Research. (waiting, do some other stuff)
Manufacture. (same deal as with research)
Form your own corporation and do what you want. (side thing really, most corps fail anyway)
Faction warfare. (pew pew)
Career paths. (mission based so waiting is up to you)
Hunt for other players. (If you camp, waiting is needed ofc. It's called a trap :D)
Bounty hunt. (more action then in just hunting players, finding them etc)
Scout for haulers. (Once the op starts, plenty to do and need to keep a good eye out)
Scout for fleets. (same deal, with added combat)
Fly in fleet ops. (Straightforward action)
Protect mining ops. (Bit of waiting, but usually enough rats to pop)
Protect haul ops. (See above few)
Enter various player events such as tournaments, frigate fights, tourist tours, gift hunts, survival runs etc. (Waiting for the tournies etc to start, sure)
Enter a large coporation and enter the large scale war going about. (lifestyle really)
Camp a gate as a pirate. (boring as a motherf*cker...more so then mining :D)

Thing is, there's no one to tell you what to do, you have to come up with it yourself, find your favorite job(or many) and do that.

It's more of a space-life then a "wow adventure".
