Once again its time to discuss the eurovision song contest!

Most of them were pretty crappy in my opinion but a couple of things i noticed:

Ukraines singer was hot. Rawr.

The french guy sang in english. :ninja:

The russian performance was kinda gay but even so i think it still deserved the victory.

The spanish song was just awful. Atleast get hot dancers if you're gonna sing that badly.

So who was your favourite?

I think they are debating if it should go national next time.

Who was the artist for Germany?

Btw...I think every country should be forced to sing in their own language. Everything else is just so wrong in such a contest...

No it isn't !

Its utter utter shite. Like Miss World, its now past the point where its "cute", "kitch", "retro" even for the 2000's. It might have been "groovy" in the 1970s, but 30 or so years on, and its mind-numbing toilet television for lobotomised TV trash addicts.

Aye political voting... UK's entry wasn't godly or nowt but they deserved alot more points than they got.... they should ban political voting and let the viewers decide over the whole thing.

I mean its a song contest for christ sake...

Well, here in the UK, the telephone and the TV have had some bad press. A lot of game shows and TV voting programmes were rigged, the result predetermined, and viewers conned out of millions of pounds...hang on...that doesn't sound like the Eurovision....

Sir Terry Wogan said he may quit as the BBC's Eurovision commentator, as the UK entry sung by former X Factor finalist Andy Abraham finished in last place.

Sir Terry cast doubt on his role after saying this year's results showed it was "no longer a music contest".

Abraham received 14 points for his song Even If, as Russia won with 272 points.

Sir Terry, who has commentated on the competition since the 1970s, said: "Russia were going to be the political winners from the beginning."

Sir Terry Wogan
Sir Terry Wogan has been Eurovision commentator for more than 30 years
He told viewers: "I think it's tremendously disappointing from the point of view of the United Kingdom.

"Andy Abraham gave, I think, the performance of his life with a song that certainly deserved far more points than it got when you look at the points that Spain got, that Bosnia-Hercegovina got - some really ridiculous songs."

Sir Terry said his producer, Kevin Bishop, was stepping down after this year's contest.

"He and I have to decide whether we want to do this again," he said.

"Indeed, western European participants have to decide whether they want to take part from here on in because their prospects are poor."

UK'S EUROVISION RECORD
2008 - Andy Abraham, 25th place
2007 - Scooch, 22nd
2006 - Daz Sampson, 19th
2005 - Javine, 22nd
2004 - James Fox, 16th
2003 - Jemini, 26th
Abraham received six points from San Marino - who were taking part for the first time - and eight from Ireland.

He said after the contest: "It's very easy to pick a country that's going to give another country 12 points. It's sad, it's really, really sad.

"It was all talked about beforehand and I decided that I was going to dismiss it. But it's very difficult to dismiss something that's right in your face."

Germany and Poland also received 14 points each, but they officially finished above the UK because their top scores in a single round were higher.

Russia received the maximum 12 points from former Soviet states Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Belarus and Armenia, as well as Israel.

But Sir Terry was generous about the Russian song, Believe, performed by Dima Bilan.

"Let's not take it away from him, let's congratulate him," he said.

The UK has only finished in the top 10 once in the last 10 years - but has finished outside the top 20 four times in that period.

- Terry wogan hit the nail on the head... its no longer a "music contest" and it never will be anymore.

I do agree that politics are a part of it but.. come on guys. Could it be possible that the UK's performances in this century havent been that great? :m00:

I must say the UK did surprise me this year: they usually send abysmal entries, but this one was quite good. I don't agree with Wogan's Bosnia-hercegovina example though. I quite liked that song, although it's probably true you had to see the act as well to appreciate it for what it is. One could also argue that shared culture = shared musical preferences, which seems a bit more likely than purely political reasons to explain the voting.

Germany was hilarious. France had a good song, but bad performance (compare the live version to the studio version) and I quite liked the Danish song as well.

The Russian guy was such a tool. Should launch an atomic nuke on all countries that voted 8-12 points for Russia.

Greece should have won without a doubt, the best song by far. Political voting is ridiculous, I'd bet Russia's influence over some Eastern European countries hasn't diminished, even after the fall of the Soviet Union.

No. The britney spears wannabe shouldn't have won by far lol.

as others have said englands performances havent been great this century (i totally agree) but Andy Abraham did not deserve last place, his song (despite it NOT being my genre of music) was good (much better than some of the other shit that went to the top 10)

Very successful rap/rnb artist and song writer.

If I ever join that contest, I let Amon Amarth plan my show. With fighting Vikings on the scene etc...this is gonna be fun =)
