Now I know our song was shit but it was a lot less shit than most of the bilge on offer this year.

Ireland give us 7 points. Malta give us the full 12 !!!!1

Nobody else gave us owt.

Western Europe is hated. Especially us. Next year we should have a scat act that flings poo at the audience and fucks off.

*humbug*

/edit: Serbia fielded wee Jimmy Krankie ffs and won

Its all those ex-commies now in the Eurovision. Look at the countries.

Sweden, Germany, UK, Ireland, Finland, France and Spain are the only Western Europeans in it this year :/ Thats 7 out of 24.

Greece, Cyrprus and Turkey make that 10 countries, not even half. The rest are all part of the ex-USSR. And with countries like the UK and Germany, with its high Polish/Turkish population, the otes are swayed enourmously.

As it is, its usually Russia/Ukraine/Estonia/Latvia all vote for each other, Cyprus/Greece is another. The Scandinavians all gangrape each other.

"Our song" was quite possibly the most offensively terrible tripe I've endured for a long time. I didn't watch it as I don't have a TV but uhhh, I went through a bunch of the entries on youtube out of a morbid curiosity and ours was probably the worst of the lot that I saw, though that might have been at least partially because I could "understand" the "lyrics". Jesus.

Really the only reason I vaguely followed this thing was because I was amazed at Germany fielding a big band swing type entry. Was their live performance anything like this? It's incredible - they're actually almost, like, real music. A bit sweeter than I'd usually like, a lack of any real grit, but still. And my respect for those guys only increased as I went through the other standard pop bullshit - not that I'm saying I'd expect anything less. It was just weird to come across big band swing jazz in the Eurovision.

German entry was way funny. The drummer lost a stick half-way through and the bloke on trumpet (who was supposed to be providing what sounded like 12 brass instruments) only moved his fingers twice :D

The worst instrument miming by far though was Ireland's twiddly-diddly-dee bollox with a bint who couldn't sing. Utter dog-toffee :)

The venue was totally excellent though. Fair play to Finland who make other countries look amateur.

How the fuck did Serbia win though. It was like wisdom-tooth-removal by the medium of song !

Pure politics. The only good thing about the whole affair is Terry Wogan, who knows it's pure politics, and he isn't afraid to mention it.

"And Thisistan has given Thatastan 12 points. What a suprise"
If we banned all *istans, and former republic of *'s, we'd probably look a damned slight healthier.

It would help of course, if each country actually entered some music instead of finding the cheesiest cheese outside of a swiss edam factory on the moon.
Half the trouble there is, without causing offence, the UK does have one hell of a record for some of the best musicians and singers in the world. The irish are not far behind - but what really, really influencial or just decent musical acts have come from mainland europe? Being a trance addict I'm a huge fan of the Dutch influence in it, but short of the stereotypical "ricky martin/enrico whateverhisface" from spain, poshed up lederhosen wearing morris dancers from germany, REALLY REALLY fat people from france trying to sing and the less said about Italian music the better.

I only watched parts of it because of Terry Wogan's commentary

LOL when the Russian woman came on for the vote screen and Wogan said something along the lines of "Mrs Putin"

Did anybody notice when they were doing the run down of acts during voting that the German guy said something along the lines of "Let us conquer Europe again"? It sounded a little dodgy whatever it was I'm surprised nobody picked up on it.

I saw about two minutes of this yesterday on Peruvian TV (yes, they show it live here too, God help them). I got to see the Russian and Ukranian votes. The scary thing is they´re not even embarassed at their partisanship. Of course now that its done by phone vote rather than panel, its even more certain that you´ll get this kind of stitch-up. Its not so much that they hate us, as that Ukraine is full of Russians, Russia is full of Ukrainians, Belarus is full of both, so it ain´t that surprising that expats vote for their home countries and skew the votes even more than normal.

It just never ceases to amaze me that as the one country in Europe with a real (global) music industry, that we actually continue to give a flying fuck.

Morrissey wanted to be our entry this year but him and the BBC couldn't work things out. I would've loved to see that. :)

It's hardly surprising when western countries tend to vote for eastern countries, combine this with bloc voting and we get results like this! It probably wouldn't be too bad if we were voting for more western/central European countries (and them voting for us), but it just doesn't happen.
