You're pointing out a non-existant problem with Cat5 cables - which makes you look like one of the kooks who fall for the spectacularly dumb cable marketing shite.

If you didn't have a bit of a tendency to believe that shit then you wouldn't be pointing out something that doesn't need to ever be considered. There is no "weak point" in Cat5 - it's a robust technology that works flawlessly when used correctly - and doesn't need special gold end plates, extra beefy connectors or additional magic shielding to work as advertised.

It is REAL problem, poor quality connectors can upset digital transmission quite a lot, it is very good at coping with error correction, but if you put low a voltage analog source through a cat connector and waggled it you would hear crackling if it wasnt made to the highest standards... this is my point the cable itself is unlikely to have any effect, but the connector can introduce huge reshaping of the digital stream.

It's already made to the "highest standards" - because it's made to its own clearly set out standard and that includes shielding and connector standards. Any modification to the connectors is a deviation from Cat5.

If a piece of equipment fails to work correctly with Cat5 then it's the equipment's fault - not the cabling. If you're "waggling" the cable in the back of your device then it's not the cable that's the problem - it's the fact that you're being a dick and mistreating equipment that isn't designed to be "waggled".

If Cat5 doesn't give the performance a piece of equipment requires, yet the equipment manufacturer still chooses Cat5 then the equipment manufacturer is being a dick.

THERE IS NO PROBLEM with Cat5 cables.

i'll say it one last time the weak point in ethernet cables is the point at which the the contacts press against each other in the plug, they can oxidise, lose their tension or simply get covered in any type of crap from the surroundings.
That's why gold is used, but even that can wear off or simply get dirty, there will be thousands of ethernet cables in use right now that have attenuation problems due to those reasons, you just don't see it because the software is doing it's job.
The digital stream is manipulated to reduce the effects, bits are flipped to reduce charging in the cable, a poor connection can mimic a
electronic component, becoming a diode or resistor on a tiny scale...you actually only need to put a kink in ethernet to get an attenuation.
I worked on a new exchange that wouldn't 'boot' up because the installers had run all the ethernet around a post and pulled it tight,
simply removing the post fixed the problem and different quality cables have better protection against that.

I'm batty mad and have failed to understand the above posts, and am still quoting "misuse of Cat5 cabling" scenarios to justify my incorrect stance...

The thread wandered.into the madness of buying big bucks cables..Im just pointing out that you can have a technical advantage in cables that.exceed the spec..but youd need a digital analyser to notice it...so its worthless for most people.
