errors in half-life online

I'm just starting out on my online half life adventure. I go in, pick a server, and i keep getting something like "9 Unknown Command"... and it tries 4 times and I am disconnected... I don't want to download the 74 meg patch, 'cos it'll take way too long...

Anyone else having this problem?

Help would be much appreciated...

You need the latest patches to play online,

If you're a 56ker, try getting the patches from a magazine cover disc.

do you know any magazines that have the needed patch?

Try PCGamer dvd's or cd's. Back catalogue if the latest ones don't have the patches you're looking for.

Yeah PC Gamer should have it in one of their Back Issues, i believe they always give freebies away

Try your local market, there might be a computer stall or something. Not that I know, with me broadband

Wait 2 weeks until the release of CS 1.4 and Half-Life 1.0.0.9 and then go out and buy either PCGamer, PCZone, or PCFormat (April's editions!) then the patch will almost definately be on the coverdisc.
