Seems to be too much hocus pocus regarding PSUs, from the original Geforce 256 DDR until now.

I have a 6800 GT, athlon 3200+, 120 Gb drive, 1GB ram, Asus AN7 nforce2 mobo, 2x optical drives etc blah and i've been running it off a 350w PSU without a single hitch. I was told that it wouldn't be enough, but it works fine for me.

Until I see a PC that gives out anything near half the amount of heat generated by a 1kW electric bar heater, I refuse to believe any of the claptrap often spouted by people who often don't even know how to work out the relationship between power, current, and voltage.

Herbal, the easiest way to work out your PSU requirements (because I very much doubt you will have to buy another PSU) is simply to add the wattage use of each device up. All electrical devices connected to the mains and sold in this country are required to give this information on the box, or manual. For instance, check out the back of your monitor, it tells you on the label how many watts it uses (although for a monitor this is irrelevant to your PSU)

Besides, the figures are for the maximum current draw (ie maximum power output), and not for its quiescent state (ie idling). Even then, most PSUs will quite happily supply more current than they're rated for, they'll just get a bit hotter doing it, and the fuse gets closer to popping. Kind of like getting closer to the redline on your speedometer if you like :)
