No, but I noticed what a dirty bunch of cheating ***** the Portugese are.

"I wasn't ready"
I'll try that the next time I fail to save a penalty.

Why in Gods name wasn't Aaron Lennon played more? I know next to nothing about football, but I couldn't help but think he looked bloody amazing every time he was put on the pitch.

As soon as it went to penatlies, I was going to turn the TV off - England suck at a shoot out, it was over from then.

They did very well to get this far and fought a solid battle until the end, but this world cup wasn't for England, we all knew that right from the group games.

Rooney is such a fucking ****. I really hope the media give him a roasting but theres no way its going to happen. Why is he allowed to do fuck all for an hour then get a teenage strop on and ruin it for the whole team? Hes done it so many times before. Whoever said he has cleaned up his act is a complete fucking moron.

Ronaldo is dislikeable for so many reasons. I can't believe him trying to get Rooney sent off. Rooney should smash his face in once they are back training at Man Utd.

He is fantastic but unfortunately he shares the same position as Beckham so he won't get a game until Mclaren sees sense, or get a new manager. I can't see Mclaren dropping Beckham.

Why is it it takes rooney to be sent off, england down to 10 men for the england team to actually start playing. Rooney was obviously getting very pissed off with himself being all alone in the front.

A good attempt by the players playing under crap cicumstances and svens formations.

Oh come on, why are we all surprised. We were lucky to beat Ecuador. I mean for the love of god, 4-1-4-1 what a great formation that is :/

Look on the bright side, Sven has gone now.....oh wait......McLaren is worse.....D'OH!!

Like we would of beat France or Brazil if we had gone through.

I fucking hate Ronaldo though, I truly want to stab his face off.

Edit - Hargreaves was our man of the tournament and the only English player to play with pride.

Well England were shit throughout the tournament - now that they are finally out maybe we'll see some real football being played.

Rooney :m00: No surprise there

It might have been funny to see England win - god knows what formation the genius Sven would have come up with for the semi. 4-6-0? England had no strikers left.

Join in if you know the words:

"They're coming home, they're coming home ... Englands coming home"
<repeat till bored>

I'm no football expert, but does anyone think penalties are a poor way to decide a winner?

Penalties seem far more luck than anything else, it doesnt necessarily decide which team "deserves to win"... why go though the pain of having up to 10 shots on goal, why not just flip a coin and be done with it?

I dont feel the outcome of the penalties in tonights game reflected the rest of the match.

Everytime he's been on the pitch he has been amazing...and yet gets no credit whatsoever. Rooney gets it all and he has done bugger all!!

And England only start playing well only in the match extra time. Why didnt they play like that all the time??

To be fair to Rooney though, he was made useless by shit formations. As the commentators keep saying, everyone's expecting him to pull a rabbit out of a hat. It's unrealistic.

Totally: but that just goes back to Sven's tactical genius in taking only 2 fit strikers - one of which had 0 experience and was never realistically going to play any part.

The only option England had was playing Rooney & Owen together - or struggle badly. 5 games have proven that.

Yes Rooney deserved all he got, but,...but, Ronaldo shouldn't have been in there waving the imaginary card around, especially with a clubmate. Rooney reacted as he would with a teammate on the training field (and you might say "clever move Ronaldo", in the short term) Rooney isn't going to forgive him for that, which as a United fan, is pretty depressing.

It's so fucking depressing that everyone, even people who don't like football, worked this out before the tournament even started! I still think this was Sven's way of giving England, and especially the English media, the finger.

Comon folks did any of you think we were going to win it? every cup gets hyped and we are the best team in the world so the media think..

5 games and we sucked in every single one.. prehaps it was tactics prehaps it was the players but the fact remains England got through every game with pure luck and by the skin of their teeth!

Forget it folks..

I'm watching Brazil v France some awsome football being played.. shame most of our English players suck arse.

To be honest, I'm glad we went out on a bit of a bang. The team played well tonight, as usual raising their game for the big occasion. We'll forget the other games in an instant (if we haven't already) and we can go home feeling bitter that we were the better team on the night (even if we did need to have out ‘best player’ sent off to show it).

Owen Hargreaves was amazing though. His tackling at the beginning and his unexpected ability to run with the ball after Rooney and J. Cole left the field were fantastic. The man deserves some credit given the initial stick he was given when he started out for us.

that was gash.

i watched the first half in the pub, having spent all day photographing scantily clad ladies for an stfc calender (best job ever) and left at half-time. it was bloody rubbish.

a penalty loss was inveitable from the moment portugal beat holland, bloody dutchies had to ruin it for us.

ah well. only 35 days until the REAL football season. only 10 days until our first pre-season friendly.

4-1-4-1 wasn't so bad. It was the formation that let Hargreaves show what a good player he can be. I'd lay the poor performances more at the door of Lampard and Beckham than Sven. Even then we were never beaten in normal play.

I never thought I'd say this but I hope France win now.
