Kazakhstan were originally part of the AFC (Asia) but moved to UEFA in 2002, I'm not sure why though

Australia play in the AFC now because playing islands with a population of 20 isn't really very testing

Part of Turkey covers Thrace, which is part of Europe if you check your atlas. Istanbul was the capital of the country for most of its history and the old, walled, city is in Europe.

Plus the Sultan was also Emperor of the Romans because of his conquest of the Byzantine Empire, so politically it could be argued they are also more European than, say, people in Northern Europe who were outside of the Roman Empire.
