I'm playing for England on Wednesday.

I can run around like a headless chicken at the top end of the pitch like Alan Smith did.

Brazil won IMO.

2 - 1 (TECHNICALLY) as I told everyone.

Stupid ref not knowing what a off-side was.

Wow, a football match I actually sat and watched..

What a dull game.

Was hoping there would be some end to end stuff, but no chance.

England didnt start running around the pitch till 60mins had gone.

No drive, no creativity (apart from Beckham), gave the ball away after 3 passes.

Midfield doesnt work. Still dont know what the right combo is but I'd like to see Beckham partner Gerrard in cent midfield for a few games with two pacey wingers on wings. Maybe Downing and SWP or someone else, not much choice mind you.
J Cole just kept on cutting back in, and Lampard (for me) was ineffective.
Guess Hargreaves will slot back in, in the near future. Will there be any space for Becks then?
I thought he did a really good job and the only person who looked like he was going to create anything (freekicks or not).

Id like to see Robinson, ACole, Terry, Rio, Neville, Downing, Gerrard, Becks, SWP or Lennon, Rooney with Owen or Crouch.

Mcclaren definately hasnt got an easy job, difficult to get the right balance.
And with the whole team looking pretty stale too...

I did chuckle though when Wes Brown got his first touch of game.

All i could hear in my head was the voice of Soccer AM - " Taxxxxiiii for Brown"

Dont blame the ref, blame the assistant as he was the only one that could make the call. I dont like the rule as it currently is anyways, if a defender steps up to play someone offside and the ball bypassed him, that player has interfered with play as his position dictated what the defender done however as rules stand the play should be allowed to continue as he didnt touch it. Load of rubbish and they go from one extreme to another with the rulings as always.
But yes, technically speaking that goal should have been allowed, but ref blew early and Robinson only made half hearted effort for it. But more importantly you cant say that the score was 2-1 if that was allowed as that goal would made a totally different game where it could have been 6-0 Brazil or 5-1 England. You simply cant predict what would have happened after that point.

Anyways, normal dull England performance and seems once more we going to be reliant on Beckham free kicks. We need to learn to get to more attacking football and to stop playing the ball backwards and to the side 90% of the time.

Am I the only one who gets tired of Joe Coles step-overs? He does it like a zillion times, even though there aren't anybody nearby.

No left foot, no pace. Lots of skill but playing out of postition he will never show his best form. Again it all boils down to us accomodating the big players (Lampard, Gerrard, Cole) rather than picking the best players to play a certain strategy so we end up running around like headless chickens and being passed off the pitch. If it wasn't for Beckham I think we would have looked second or third rate, his passing and vision was world class even if his pace isn't.

Joe Cole needs to learn how to step-over. Super Frank was super shit. Like Chodax says he is in the team because he is Frank Lampard. I read in the papers that he was livid with Maclaren after being dropped for the Andorra game (yes officially was some bullshit about a wrist), but boo-fucking-hoo. If Maclaren wants the best out of Gerrard offensively he cannot play him with Lampard. For the whole of todays game it was Gerrard tracking back and making challenges. Ok fair enough if Lampard was creating and rampaging through the midfield, but he wasnt and never has done the same as Gerrard can. Lampard has been given chance after chance with Gerrard being sacrificed.... Maclaren needs to be ruthless. However its not all about selection, there just seems to be no movement infront of the ball. So the ball goes backwards and side to side. Then Brazil get the ball and show us how it should be done with little interchanges and lots of movement. Beckham was excellent and Owen looked sharp.

Joe Cole is so frustrating. He hasnt the pace or skill to beat a man, yet he tries everytime, rather than looking for the simple pass.

I still cant believe Beckham was made the scapegoat for our world cup disaster. Hes still the best english right midfielder by a long way. He has something that only Terry, Caragher and Gerrard have, they will die for the cause. These are the players you want. He takes control of the game. An example was when England were pussy footing around in their own half, he runs back, takes the ball of Caragher and launches an attack

qft!

The lack of moment is a real issue, no runners means no space to pass into so you have to try long speculative passes that often get intercepted. This is why Brazil can hang onto the ball for 2-3 minutes and England are lucky to last more than 30 seconds. Even Docwolfe doesn't blow his load that fast, 45 second wonder at least! :D :p ;)

Joe Cole does not know he has got a left foot, that is the problem. When ever a lovely ball is played down the channel set up for a pace first time ball into the box it never comes. He stops the ball, checks back onto his right foot and has given his marker time to get onto him, and for the rest to get into the box.

He has got some skills, but that is his main weakness, coupled with him learning a thing or two from Robben on how to hit the deck and lay there five minutes complaining why a freekick not given whilst the opposition goes on to attack.

If all were fit and available Englands best lineup is

Robinson
Neville Ferdinand Terry Cole
Beckham Hargreaves Gerrard Cole
Rooney Owen

Which is pretty much how Sven left things, McClaren has tried some new things but nothing has worked out so its back to old setup. Which is why McClaren should never have been given the job in the first place.

As for last night, Beckham was different class. Just about the only player for England who could pass a ball and showed what we have been missing with his set plays and crosses. Gerrard was good as he nearly always is and they would never have got the equaliser with Terry still on the pitch.

The fact that you don't include Terry as a centre back just epitomises your knowledge of football :p

Hmmm, Keitan as bright as ever. Carragher is indeed a good centre back BUT ferdi/terry partnership is very strong and nothing carragher can do which will be an improvement on that. When there an injury to one of the centre backs then he should be brought into the team there though else he is a suitable backup for both fullback positions which is why he a handy player to have as part the squad.

Crouch still not up to the job in internationals. Due to his play style most moves break down with a freekick given against him which is a liability, more so if you got Beckham playing in the crosses, will just make getting him back a waste of time.

At the moment Rooney isnt performing at his best which is a shame, coupled with the supension means that perhaps crouch should be playing against Estonia with Owen alongside. So first choice forwards Rooney/Owen, with Crouch as backup.

Midfield, currently I would go with
beckham hargreaves gerrard cole - i think everyone has to agree this is the strongest lineup. IF gerrard doesnt perform then you bring lampard in and see if he performs better, but as of yet he hasnt done it for england whereas at times Gerrard does perform. Other backup players be Cole and Downings.

Defence is no arguements. At full fitness it has to be Neville, Tery, Ferdi, Cole. Backup is Carragher and Richards.

I'm leaning more and more towards Bridge over Cole tbh Corran.

Much better work rate and the guy and has a better work ethic too, doesn't scream blue murder at the ref at every opportunity.

Yeah i would take Bridge over Cole anyday. Most footballers are wankers, A. Cole somehow manages to stand out amongst the sea of wankers. Which proves how much of a wanker he is. Carragher Vs Ferdinand argument: As far as i am concerned its not overly bothering that Carragher doesnt play for England.. if he got injured we would be monumentally fucked. Ferdinand is capable of some shocking shocking David James-esque cock ups. Yes he forms a good partnership with Terry, but how many times has Carragher had the chance to play alongside Terry? Nada. If the England team lack desire, Carragher is the god of hustle and heart.

Stick Gareth Barry on the left wing, Rooney instead of Smith, replace Lampard with Hargreaves who will hold so that Gerrard can express himself and England's problems are solved. A balanced 4-4-2 with everyone playing in thier normal postitions instead of a team that is picked to accomodate stars which is why we play like shit at the moment, negative containment football at it's worst.

I've been on a bender in London this weekend and I've just got back. I went to the match, the new wembley. The game was pretty dire, but I went out and got fucked after so I don't care :)
