It would have helped if the ref knew the off side rule, but yeah we did some stupid things.

Apart from he was Irish :p

Still, missed a blatant cross by Peterson off the try line, cynical penalty for the last SA score and the 4th official didn't help England much ;) The score line could have been anything from 4 up to 9 down at full time, but on such things are finals won and lost.

Despite the loss though, some good performances by some of the English players (Martin Corry, Matthew Tait (making up for some poor previous play)); knowing the team played with heart and competed is what mattered.

SA deserved the win, they were the better team on the day and have been imo the best looking team overall throughout the world cup
England made far too many silly mistakes and were punished for it but they didnt do awfully tbh and can leave with heads up :england:

Ref was spot on for the most part, he did miss a couple of big'uns tho for both sides, but either way well played and deserved South Africa

Shame we lost, but there's always gotta be a winner and a loser. The better side won. Time to move on. Its not the end of the world (unlike Iran upping their nuclear programme - which they are doing incidentally)

True, South Africa were the best team in the tournament.

Won't matter about Iran, yanks will move in there soon and fuck things up like they have in Iraq.

IMO yeah the try should of been given, but other than a few mistakes, the ref had a good game. England played well, shut down all the main danger men. They lost because of careless penalties (amazed the ref spotted that trip). So yeah, SA deserved to win, but only just.

Just a general observation - not aimed at anyone - LOL whenever England lose its ALWAYS the ref's fault. Or the pitch wasn't quite right. Oh it was windy. It was definitely off side. Ref are you blind ? Why can't sports fans stop making excuses all the time and just accept that their team lost cos they got beaten by a better side on the day LOL

Could have gone either way at a few points, although England didn't really ever deserve to win purely on the fact the Saffers completely owned us in the line outs, not that SA ever looked like they could break our defence. Was a very negative game for both sides imo, and apart from the SA dominance in the lineouts it really was a stolid game all round.

What's red and white and goes beep, beep, beep, beep?

The England victory bus as it reverses back into the garage :p

Hard luck tbh, try should have been allowed although I've got to admit the South Africans looked like a right scary bunch :eek6:

How that try wasnt given was beyond me. Apart from the break by tait leading up the disalowed try england offered nothing in attack. Obv the game plan was to pepper the wingers with bombs which imo was wrong, they should of utilised the short kicking game as JP whatever his name his, turns like a carthouse. As for the halfbacks, well we all know wilkinson is a potent dead ball kicker, but both him and Gormasall, are not organisers. Im from the old school, I like my half backs to be able to guide a team around the park and organise their backs. Plus both lack the creativity with ball in hand.

Without wanting to make Raven kick his cat or divorce "the wife", when you are from rugby league stock its so frustrating to watch england attack. It seems their attack is built on luck. They just put the ball through hands and hope a defender misses a tackle or they just hope for an overlap, rather than creating one themselves. They need dummy runners, running good lines to create overlaps.

With nearly all the team over the age of 30, england are going to go through a huge transitional period now. Althought I do like Tait, hes got a huge future

BTW, did you see the team singing the national anthem? now THATS pride

Heh, I noticed jonny was the only one not singing it as the camera passed ;) Personally I don't think the scoreline should have been that wide with the way the teams were playing. Neither really made big advances and every single point was scored by penalties...it just sucked for a world cup final where the matches have for the most part been exceptional this year. Same problem for england as their previous matches though, we don't seem capable of scoring trys and instead are relying too heavily on jonnys foot for the penalties.

Fantastic night, despite the loss. Still at the Hilton in Paris had breakfast with a load of Eng and Boks fans. Glad I had the opportunity to be at the game on a freebie ticket :) Staying here till Thursday as some mates from Richmond Old Boys have organised a few games. Should be a laugh.

Pretty much everyone in agreement. Try was a try - photos and playback clearly show he lifted his foot and grounded the ball before he was pushed into touch. Might have opened the game up a bit if it were given.

Refereing was not great, he was not consistant and let a lot go. Also needs to learn the off side rule. But, then England should not expect much from a French Ref and Aussie Match Ref. The aerial game of ping pong was not pretty and neither side gained much from it. England controlled much of the game with the exception of the linouts and should have done more with the possession they had.

In saying all that, best team won on the night. England did not do enough to get over the gain line. One clear break all night is not good enough. Fair play to the boks they deserved the win.

:england::drink:
