Anyone know anything about this illness? My 2year old nephew is 'critically ill' with this and the doctors have said his situation is desperate because they do not know whats wrong with him :s

Hes been in the intensive care unit for 3 weeks now and is not improving, instead hes just having fits / seizers. We have been fearing for the worst for the last 3 weeks, and there arent many signs of improvement, other than a clear MRI scan and little movements such as (today) turning over onto his side by himself :)

Has anyone got any similar stories or information which could possibly shed light on the future, i know it is different in all cases but some sort of knowledge is better than non. i think

Have heard of it, but reading up it seems it's most dangerous to under 1 yr olds and there's loads of different types and severities.

It seems to be like Meningitis doesn't it? just not as quick acting and the treatment seems to be less agressive.

Hope he gets better with out any bad effects, kids can go from critical to bouncing round the bed in 1 night, my mates 2 yr old nearly died from a lung infection and a week after the op she was pushing me round the garden on kids pushbike.

an infection in the brain, harsh.
hopefully, he'll be fine. the problem with most 'brain' infections is that the immune system sort of doesnt bother with it because it supposed to be impenetrable (sp?) to infection.
there are several behavioural conditions related to encephalitis (ocd and some others that i cant remember offhand, only 'caused' by any damage to brain tissue though.) but hopefully you wont need to worry about that.
if the MRI had shown anything abnormal, the doctors would have told you, so hopefully there is nothing to worry about, and what i've said isn't too scary or whatever (i've not looked at those links).
hope the little dude gets better soon!
