Emotionally Charged Movie Scenes

It's been a while since I've seen a film and be so moved by a single scene, that then makes me overlook alot of the film which may not be anywhere near as good.

I'm talking about a scene in James Cameron's The Abyss, in which Ed Harris has to revive his wife and continues doing so even when his crew give up. It just made me think about how I'd behave in a situation like that and I pictured myself with my ex. The preceding scene in the sub was some truly excellent build up, and I can scarcely think of another film in which I really gave a shit about the characters. I thought that "There's no way she'd be able to survive that long without air!" and "I'm going to be disappointed if she lives!", but after all that, I found myself feeling completely sympathetic to Ed Harris' character. They don't make films like this anymore, which is sad to say.

I think the last film with a scene to affect me like that may have been Titanic, but I was much younger then and alot more impressionable.

So anyway, what other scenes in films have you had to really take a step back and think about?

It's rare that a film will actually move me, but that's not to say there haven't been good ones - I'm just dead inside. Good Will Hunting had a fairly emotional ending.

the last film to make me cry was le huitiéme jour. i couldn't help but shed a little tear...

one of the most moving films i've ever seen is mar adentro, a true story about a quadriplegic and his battle to 'die with dignity'.

and i cried at watership down. so shoot me.

I'm a bit of a wimp, I tend to sniffle at anything but probably the most moving scene for me? Hmmm, the opening cemetery scenes in Saving Private Ryan....the final shot in Heat....Red's monologue in The Shawshank Redemption when he is freed...

So many to choose from.

8mm the scene where Nic cage's character phones the mother of the murdered girl, tells her what happened to her daughter and asked her permission to punish the men responsible before pistol whipping one of them to death. Great stuff.

All of Morgan Freeman's dialogue at the end of shawshank.

Final fantasy advent children, the fight between Cloud and Sephiroth because I like the idea that the fate of the world rests on one mans shoulders and he's giving everything he's got.

Black hawk down where the 2 delta force guys are defending Mike Durrant but know they're about to be overrun. This scene I find hard to watch because it portrays a real event, those two men must have looked out at the crowds of people when their ammo was running low and known they were about to die.

And for lord of the rings two moments come to mind, Boromir being wounded by arrows but absolutly refusing to give up fighting, and the doomed charge at minas morgul.

Heroism seems to be the thing that gets me.

a very moving scene is when Tom Hanks gets shot at the end of Saving private Ryan.....after all the shit he has gone through to save that guy and finally dies himself.
I was really close to shed a tear...

Scent of a woman always seems to choke me up. Pacino just plays that part so well.

The Green Mile is another movie which makes me shed a tear aswell.

Bit cliche, but ET makes me cry every time, and has done since I was 4 years old.
My Girl makes me cry when she runs into his funeral service crying 'his glasses, where are his glasses, he can't see without his glasses.'
Titanic makes me cry, Bridge to Terabithia I cried at, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Watership down all had me shedding a tear.
But then again, I'm a girl, so its allowed

Cats and Dogs when the puppy "dies". Gets me every time.

I cry so much and so easily though that I tend to avoid seeing films that will make me upset, as headaches and swollen eyes and snot are just not a enjoyable process to put yourself through. The Green Mile? I cried from the moment

until the end of the film. Watership Down still haunts me. The Abyss drowning, and the terror on her face, still make me feel wretched. Even Little Miss Sunshine has me crying.

It's hard work, being as emotionally malleable as me.

Pretty much every scene involving Russell Crowe and Al Pacino in The Insider.

Its a film that needs to be seen by everyone but the one moment that sticks out for me is when Crowe falls down the grass bank, its so well done and perfect.

Amazing, perfect film.

But if you want real quality, you should watch "I, Anal" with Will Smite. Some kinky robosex right there.
Also his other film, "I Am Anal", is good enough, but it's a bit too much solo action oriented.
