Afraid I haven't got any links :(. Wikipedia may prove tricky as well, since Lacan was a psychoanalyst as well, so there's a lot of not so interesting stuff too.

I think I focussed too much on one side of the story though, so a bit more focus on the second part now. In the second part, where I link Derrida to Lacan, I speak of la trace. I'll try to explain this a bit more.

Derrida agrees with Lacan (and Saussure, who saw this first) that words are defined differentially. This implies that a word is in fact a bundle of references to other words. For this reference he uses the term la trace (mark, print). This has the following interesting consequences:
  • the other is present in the same
  • the presence of the other is constitutive to the same
  • This presence is thought as an absence (mark, print)
So, while I think that everyone is individual, I also think that nobody is original. By identifying with a word (name) we in fact identify with a bundle of references to other words. These words can be other persons, ideas, concepts, etc

What is wrong in my opinion, is fully identifying with someone else or a group. You are never just a member of a group. You shouldn't say "I am an xxx," but rather "I am, at the moment, among others an xxx." At the moment implying that at any time you can choose no longer to identify (partly) with said image. Among others meaning that you have traits which can't be derived from the group you identify with (or even go against the general image of the group).

I do realise that this is too long to say every time though. It's ok to say "I'm a doctor," but you should realise that you are not only a doctor, but also a friendly man, father, etc. These other traits are traits independent of your being-doctor. You aren't friendly in a doctorish way. If that makes any sense.
