Hmmm, this problem just occured out of the blue, my Outlook just isnt recieving any incoming emails at all. Im on BT Openworld

I did a small test, first using my Hotmail account to send an email to my BTo, nothing. So i send an email from my BTo account to my Hotmail, and i recieve it straight away.

Then i reply to the email (Thinking hell, i may have got it wrong), but still nothing come through. Then ch3tan said he'd send us an email, i didnt recieve that either.

I load up my Outlook (Express 6) and it says "Authorizing - No new email messages". Im (apparently) working online but it sure dont feel like it!

I loaded up Microsoft Outlook to see if maybe it was a problem with OE6, but alas, that didnt bring any new emails in either, which has left me stumped. I need to access my new emails because im awaiting a few new important ones..

I thought maybe my firewall was blocking access, so i disabled it (eep) but still nothing come through

It started at about hmmm, 3pm this afternooon, at first i didnt think anythin of it because we all know emails get delayed, but after about 4hrs i started to think whats wrong, because i usually do get them so i did the above tests to find nothing was working

Sooo come on! Give me some ideas! I'll say now i havent editted any settings, theyve been as they was for ages with no problems, and i was told by a few people BTo Mail is working for them

My Dad was telling me that BT partnered up with Yahoo and stuck a new spam filter on their mail server. He's been having problems with it for ages but then he uses Eudora Pro.

Try checking using a web based email client see if that works.
Otherwise I'd just say give it a couple days. If you haven't changed anything it has to be on their end.

aye, believe so, but they should still tell you what mail they have/havent blocked.

I tried viewing emails from the website, but it wont allow me because my default client is OE6 and not the website (So i dont get 2sets of emails for both places)

Silly i know *sigh*

But somewhere along the line they are going missing. Perhaps BT have just merged with Royal Mail?

Check the server status page. It might be down. If you have Office, you can run a quick test in the accounts page, that helps determine the status.

Oh, and check that the address for the pop3 server hasn't been mistakenly altered, I've had that happen once.

Tools>Accounts>view/change>[CHANGE]>[Test account settings] in Office 2003.

Also, try deleting your *.pst file (back it up first), see if thats the problem.

I would have expected that if there was summat wrong your end then you would be seeing an error when you try and collect. For example summat teling you that your account or password were not recognised. If the connection works but no mail arrives I would suspect that summat has gone wrong in BT, which means contacting them might be the best bet.

I have absolutely no idea where to look here, ive looked out Outlook (Dont give me a headache saying Office! ;)) and i get as far as "Tools > Accounts" then i dont see view/change, which leaves me stuck.

Cant find the .pst' either, think this headache is getting worse :/

Ive recieved an email from BT in regard to this:

Dear Mr. Gray,

Thank you for your email.

I am sorry to hear that you are not receiving emails addressed to you and the
sender does not get a failure to deliver message. Please accept my apologies for
any inconvenience it may have caused.

Very few messages are simply lost in transit. If you haven't received a message
you were expecting, there's usually another cause.

First, check with the sender to make sure that they actually sent the message
and aren't having problems with their mail server. If that's not the problem,
it's possible one of the following occurred:

Reason 1: When you log into your BT Yahoo! Mail account, you're shown a
'snapshot' of your account at that moment. If you spend a long time composing or
reading a message, you won't know of any new messages that arrive in your
account. Only when you load a new snapshot of your Inbox by clicking 'Check
Mail', located on the top left-hand side, reloading or refreshing your browser,
or viewing a different page in your account, will you be alerted to the presence
of new messages.

Reason 2: The sender may not have your correct email address or may have
accidentally entered an incorrect email address. If the address entered was
valid (it belongs to someone), someone else may have received the message
intended to reach you. If the address entered was invalid (not owned by anyone),
the message should have been returned to the sender with an error message.

Reason 3: Most messages are delivered within a few minutes, but messages can
sometimes be delayed while in transit due to problems on the sender's mail
server, heavy Internet traffic, or routing problems. (On rare occasions, delays
can last for several hours or more.)

Reason 4: The Blocked Addresses feature in BT Yahoo! Mail allows you to create a
list of addresses that you don't want to receive mail from. Mail coming in from
one of these senders will neither arrive nor bounce, but will simply be
discarded. You can check your Blocked Addresses list by clicking 'Mail Options',
located on the top right-hand side of the page, and then 'Block Addresses'.

Reason 5: Check to see if you've set your mail to be forwarded to another email
address. To check this, click the 'Mail Options' link, located on the top
right-hand corner, then click the 'POP Access and Forwarding' link.

Reason 6: If you've reached your storage limit and another user attempts to send
you a message, the message will be returned to the sender with an explanation
that you've reached your storage limit. To help you manage your storage quota,
the welcome page in your Yahoo! Mail account includes a quota summary. This
summary indicates the percentage of your storage limit you're currently using.

Reason 7: Occasionally, interruptions or disruptions in email transmissions over
the Internet will render a message undeliverable. While this is very rare, it
does happen. Unfortunately, aside from waiting, there's no way to know for
certain whether a message has been delayed or whether it has been rendered
undeliverable.

I already know pretty much all of that stuff and its of no help at all, gah! :/

Try deleting your *.pst file.

E:\Documents and Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst

Are you absolutely sure you have the correct pop server in your settings?

Have you checked for viruses? Also, is any software on your computer intercepting incoming email (like norton antivirus, or zonealarm)

twat twat twat twat!

I found the problem

When i opened outlook (Either OE6 or 2002) the system would just *die* slowly, memory getting fucked everywhere.

I just did a reset and it said "Program not responding: MESSAGEBOUNCER fucking ****!

I did a Spyware scan last night, with virus scan, and it brought up nothing!

Now im looking thru my program list but again nothing is showing

Grrrr

Messagebouncer is apparently an old REALPlayer component... and wouldn't affect your email.

Before reformatting I'd have tried an email client such as 'The Bat!' but it's too late now. Is there any chance you've put your email details into another system which could be on and collecting your mail? Change your password and then send yourself another test, as it sounds like it's being collected off elsewhere. You might want to also just check the control panel for your account to make sure it's not being forwarded (and that you've got your inbox alias correct).

probably not:

a BT spokesman explained that the telco had suffered a "large spam attack over the weekend which resulted in one per cent of emails being delayed".

Well i did the format anyway, because the guy who said the first email said "nope, no problems, BT doesnt have any email problems". So i thought "shit, must be my end then".

So i formats, reinstalls Outlook and huzzah! I start to recieve all the emails which i thought i wouldnt get back, but they just started coming flying into my mailbox about 5-per-10minutes.

One of them was very cleverly another person from BTo, stating there WAS a problem with the network atm, so i thought "yeah played clever shit, just send it to my account which i cant access, THATS gonna help" :/.

But anyway the saga is over!yipppeee :p

The 1% referred to email recieved over the weekend only, everything since has been fine - that kind of outage due to an attack wouldn't hit certain mailboxes in this way... and now he's reformatted we'll never know.

Orange did something similar to me when i had a faulty mobile, i rang them up(from a landline) and they diagnosed the phone faulty and took details. 4 days passed and i'd heard nothing so i rang them again, gave them case# etc, and they said they'd missed some important details, the lady took them and voila phone was with me the next day. 5 mins after i switched the new phone on, i got a voicemail form the original operator telling me that she needed some more details to replace my faulty phone, ON WHICH SHE WAS LEAVING THE MESSAGE!.

pld gg Orange.
