Guys

I have a unit that I had a charger for, i.e its gone walkies. So Ive been told that this one will work. An AC/DC Fixed voltage 500mA.

I found an AC/DC adaptor that was 1000mA yesterday and tried that. The units charging light comes on, but it doesnt charge.

I have a 500mA one on the way so waiting for that. but why wouldnt the 1000mA be charging it? The unit was charging fine with my old 500mA so I dont think its buggered. Well, it maybe now :twak:

It's probably too much power (2x) for it to cope with, so you may have blown the charging circuit.

See what happens when the new charger turns up.

Isnt it a maximum of 1000mA? Thats what I was told.

I just hope the charger turns up today!

Cheers

Quick lesson. Devices draw current and consume power, depending upon their internal resistance and the voltage supplied to them.

So your power supply could be capable of having 50 million amps drawn from it, it's irrelevant. What matters is, can it supply the correct voltage, and can whatever is connected draw the current it needs from it?

The device you've linked is a power supply. It basically outputs 12 volts, and enables whatever is connected to draw a maximum of half an amp (500mA). It'll happily supply anything that needs that voltage and which needs to draw that much current, but it isn't a charger. Chargers are different in that they do not output a steady voltage, they are designed to do a particular job for a specific chemistry of battery.

So no, the PSU you've linked won't charge your battery. For that, you need a charger - not a PSU. I've had good service from these people. Send them an email with what you want on it. http://www.allbatteries.com/

It may be doing something, a trickle charge perhaps, but it isn't designed to charge your battery and in the long run you may end up regretting using it.

It will charge it but it will reduce the life of the battery compared to a proper charger.
