Samsung SM2433BW 24" TFT Monitor 1920x1200 20000:1 300cd/m2 5ms VGA/DVI Glossy Black 3 Years Warranty - Ebuyer
Samsung T240 24" TFT Monitor 1920x1200 1000:1 300cd/m2 5ms DVI/HDMI Rose Black 3 Years Warranty - Ebuyer

I've been thinking about grabbing that first sammy but I spotted the second and I'm finding it difficult to spot the main difference other than the price. The 300 quid one has HDMI, but surely that's not worth an extra 100 quid? Am I missing something?

Any help appreciated chaps. :)

Oh, the url seems to indicate massively different contrast ratio's - 20,000:1 on the cheaper and 1000:1 on the expensive one. However, on the specs they say the same?

Thats the dynamic contrast ratio or whatever it's called. To make it look better, the lower number will be the actual, real world contrast ratio.

Based purely on the links, I can see nothing to make the T240 worth so much more. Maybe it is just the HDMI, maybe it has a better quality panel? Would need to see a site with full specs listed.

I would get the cheaper one, you can get a hdmi > dvi adaptor if you ever do need to connect a HDMI device, and it is HDCP compliant. The contrast ratio, viewing angle and resolution are the same on both.

I have the T240. Great monitor but has 1 annoying "feature". It seems to have problems switching between inputs. I sometimes have to switch it off and on again when switching because the screen stays black. Also when it was switch off by windows and you come back and wiggle your mouse or hit a key to make it wake up it won't respond. Hitting the power button solves this... which only takes 2 secs, but still, this shouldn't happen on a £300 monitor...

Other than that... amazing screen :)

Aye chet - figured that was the case, I've no need for HDMI at all. I've got my projector for that.

Cyradix - any idea if there's anything specifically different between your screen and the other I linked bar HDMI? Seems a lot extra for one extra port.

The 240T has HDMI and an USB hub... oh and a stand that can tilt and turn... the SM2433 can only tilt (if that matters to you :) )
Other than that.... same monitor!

Cool - still seems odd to charge £100 quid more for those features, but whatever. I think I'm sold on the £200 quid one. :D

Have to fight with my inner-jew though, my Viewsonic 19" is still really good. I've no doubt the 24" will shit all over it but still it's tough to let it go. Plus dual screen is a no go as the other port goes to my projector. I guess I could get a standard PCIe card for a third monitor...

you could get a splitter to let you switch between the second output? Easy with hdmi, not sure with dvi....

Problem is, that means fiddling with the resolution when I switch. 5:4, 16:10 and 16:9 for my Viewsonic, Samsung and Infocus projector respectively. To be quite honest, not sure I have room for both monitors on my desk anyway. Monitor is ordered anyway, I'll find a good home for my viewsonic. :D

I got this for someone, built him a system, and he wanted a display/tv combo.

While the finish, the colours and the contrast are very good and it features an impressive array of inputs, one annoying thing is the standby resume time, it takes ages for it to detect input on DVI and display stuff on screen, you only get to see the last few seconds from the POST screen. Very annoying. Same thing with switching inputs.

I did look for a solution, unfortunately it doesn't look like there is one. It's just .. slow in this respect.
