Thats a good question Landshark.

There are several reasons:
1) Sometimes there are a lot of things to translate which are largely invisible to the players. This can be things like tradeskills (all items involved), loot tables (all the new loot items), new quests and NPCs (all the names/talk they do) and similar.

2) There is a fixed amount of time added to any patch we want to launch. It needs to be tested in three languages, this usually takes minimum 2 extra weeks (if everything runs smoothly) on top of any translation, no matter how small the patch is. This is one of the reasons we try to bundle up the patches into bigger versions.

3) Communication with Mythic also takes time. They wait a bit with sending us their newest version to ensure that it is working and that major issues are fixed with read files. Also, when we send them bugs in our test versions, they fix it, send it back, we then retest it and verifies it works as intended. It may not sound like much but it adds up.

4) All this doesn't sound like much compared to the scale of SI, I know. This is because alot of the new stuff for SI was actually put into the game in the patches before SI, but not activated. Items, monsters, quests etc. -a part of these things were done while the normal updates were being prepared. This is what I meant by "alot of the things translated are not immediately visible to the players". That SI was done so fast for its size was largely due to parts of it being introduced through the normal patches (which in turn took longer to translate ofcourse).

All this said, I think our patching process and translation routine has taken leaps and bounds during the last year. We are currently working on version 1.61 and waiting for the files for 1.62 which are in testing in the US version. This is probably as close as we can get to the US version, given the factors with communication and testing explained above.

Ok, I think I'm done scratching my own back now, I hope this answers your question :)

EDIT: Changed the padding.

zargar / GOA in "talking to the public shocker"

more of this in future plz :) even if it doesnt shorten the time it takes for us to get the updated content, we reeeeeeeally like to know what's going on, and to know that the cogs are still turning behind GOA's otherwise un-moving facade (1 update per week? :() at camelot-europe.com is soothing to our worries.

The day people start to use sharks as riding animals in DAoC is the day I stop playing DAoC.

Half-Ogres is cool, but not a new idea (seen it posted several times, still making these children sounds very painfull for the woman in question (at construction and at birth)).

Metal armors in sea water, will be a major rust problem, also wondering what the salvages of the armor drops will give me.
