aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa a a a I just had a couple of these in a row and now I don't trust my poota any more. it's been behaving somewhat erratic over the past couple of days and now this.

I notice it tends to do it when either playing a game or playing something from youtube (not that that means anything). Anyone have a reasonable idea what to do about it? Reinstalling Vista isn't my favourite sport for a sunny afternoon tbh :/

Fake Video Ram or Mobo Ram more than likely.

Have you updated your graphics card drivers recently or added any software which may interfere with them?

Either way, I'd suggest rolling back your graphics card drivers for a day and see whether this still happens.

edit: Not sure how useful the msdn is going to be but anyway:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms793232.aspx

This error has been linked to excessive paged pool usage and may occur due to user-mode graphics drivers crossing over and passing bad data to the kernel code.

Probably not if that's the case. Anything been installed recently?

Check what updates WinUpdate has installed. It may have upgraded your graphic card drivers?

vista = tripe tbh :(

there is now random freezing without BSODs. I'm going to reinstall and see of that helps.

for the record I spent about an hour working out that Vista, or indeed any current doze, can not format a USB key or drive to be bootable, so being the bright spark that I am I made it happen in about three minutes from a virtual machine I had running Gentoo. Then ofc I decided I didn't need a bootable thingy and all the frustration was for nothing, upgraded my mobo BIOS to the latest release just in case, and sat about deciding what to do. upgrading is currently out of the question: jsut had a quick browse, and anything marginally within spec will cost me about 800 or more of my darling euros :/

Just download the HP usb key thingy for bootable USB under doze. The M$ rule of thumb is "if somebody else did it, why should we bother", just look at CD burning support.

Still think you're jumping the gun with a wipe matey, have you been through the system logs?

thats a possibility, both Vista and windows 7 have dodgy grafic drivers on winupdate that iirc can be automatically checked when doing a manual update.

Fuck that m8. Win7 RC free for the next year. I'm MCSE and have managed to avoid vista completely at work and at home. Installed it on a VM a few months back - it sucks big fat gushing donkey cock.
