Football is life. If it was a choice between Barca winning the champions league, or poverty in africa being eradicated, id choose a Barca win everytime as Africas problems dont interest me

Not the choice I would make but I do admire your honesty.

Football isn't life. It's a bunch of men kicking a ball around a park, the way people get so worked up about is absolutely pathetic and at times cringeworthy.
To prefer a Barca win is completely selfish, the 'joy' you get from a Barca win doesn't mean jack shit, means even less when compared to the life of a fellow human being.

Some of you need to grow the fuck up and get some perspective.

Where as I do agree it is slightly selfish to prefer a Barca win - I wouldn't go so far as to saying that football isn't life. For many people, your job is your life, if you love it enough then it becomes everything. Don't forget that being a footballer is still a job and understandably those who are involved in it know it as their "life". Just look at Paul Gascoigne, recently put under the Mental Health Act, football was all he had and when he lost it he couldn't handle it.

It's a matter of not being able to empathise. If you've never lost a family member, if you've never been in a situation where you are malnutritioned (like in Africa) or if you've never broken your leg as a professional footballer, I don't think you will be able to understand the mental impact these things have on people. As with the "joy" of seeing your team win the title, you don't support football, that's fine but it means you cannot truly understand the euphoria of your beloved team becomming champions. I think the way you describe football as "a bunch of men kicking a ball around a park" further backs up my point as to many people it is so much more.

Perhaps it is you who needs to gain some perspective.

You're all probably going to accuse me of BSing but i used to Fence at an international level for England U18s but fucked my back in the last 16 of a tournament in Poland, which meant i had to give it up. I also have been to more football games than most here (Arsenal fan, catch the games at Newcastle, Sunderland and Middelsborough) and enjoy the sport, so i think i have more perspective on this than most. Also Marc is English so how 'beloved' can Barca really be?

Nah i live up here so its no hassle really. It just seems so foreign to me, i would gladly see Arsenal relagted if it meant saving the life of one person, whereas seeing poverty ereadicated in Africa would save millions, i just really can't see your point of view.

Im half spanish. My father was employed by barcelona and I have family in barcelona. I have many momentos from the Barcelona club and have probably been to more Barcelona games this season than many of the fans on here have been to their clubs.

My original post was a troll, to counter the troll who was taking the high moral ground, so chill the fuck out and get back in your box

Arsenal Seson Ticket holder for 10 years this year has been the only one of them i have not gone to 90% of the games, to me Arsenal is a massive part of my life. While i would not go as far as saying an Arsenal win is more important than life. But Africas problems are not my problem there is nothing i can do. Should i give all my money each month to charity? Hell no. So i do not feel guilty that Eduardos broken leg makes me feel more remource than kids dieing in affrica, i have said often enough how i feel about that.

I'm not taking a higher moral ground. I'm putting you on a lower moral ground :D

And normally I love football, on a personal level. When you watch it on TV and see those fakeass players getting paid millions of £ for diving like primadonnas and starting brawls over shit it's just pathetic. Pathetic. And let's not mention the 'supporters'.

And trust me, if Africa was eradicated from poverty, you would all be more affected and interested than you might want to believe...

Actually you are coming across as un-empathetic and devoid of common sense
rather than any morale high ground

seriouly get some perspective
if someone at your work was crippled would you go 'I hope he is ok', 'i hope he gets better'
or would you go
'i will send the money i would give for his get well collection to africa as they need it more'

As for Africa its a black hole for money and i refuse to donate a single penny to the board for directors for x charity's personal trust fund

This thread really has seemed to have brought the worst out in people :(

From a football injury to arguing about poverty in africa? I certainly didnt see that one coming!

Keitan you just need to learn that not everyone is going to understand controversial humour, and many will find it offensive.

Mey, its got nothing to do with people acting all "holier than thou", its got to do with jokes in bad taste, people dont always like hearing them and thats just life. This is a very serious injury for that guy and his supporters, and so hearing "I watched it ten times lol" isnt really going to please them is it?

Half of you seem to be talking about how its "just a football injury" and is basically insignificant when compared to the suffering in africa etc. Obviously you're right, but exactly what relevance does it have to this thread?

This sort of injury isnt seen every day in football and something as high profile as this is bound to provoke discussion, Africa has been discussed in its own threads, I dont see how by discussing this in a totally unrelated thread we are belittling africa?

Seriously, I wouldnt mind taking a bit of whatever you lot are on!

Indeed. Quite funny how you people go all 'shocking', 'horrible', 'I hope he is ok', 'career over, I feel very sorry' when a footballplayer that probably has seen the 'best' of life gets injured.

While kids in starve to death every day in Africa, nobody gives a rats :)

All starving children are suffering, therefore, anyone who isn’t a starving child… isn’t suffering??

Ironically, culturally, football has always been a means for those coming from impoverished backgrounds to break out and better their lives and prospects, for both themselves and their families. This might be less so in modern times for grand countries such as ours where we’re all born with silver spoons in our mouths but is still all too true in developing countries such as Africa.

But hey, it’s just a silly game, isn’t it?

I wish Eduardo all the best. I really do hope his career isn’t over, there’s enough people in the world doing shit jobs they hate without someone that’s both good and lucky enough to be doing a job they love having to give up under circumstances like this.

Of course I'd feel sorry for any friend or other human being that is having a hard time, depending on who they are. But what I found interesting was peeps getting emo over this footballplayer getting injured but not giving a fuck about kids starving in Africa.

And read the response I gave Marc when he asked me if I sent money to Africa.

I blame the coffweeeee Dukat

Tsk Tsk, you should know by now that the worlds problems are our fault and our problem to solve! How dare people think about something other than the poor starving people in Africa! People like Azurus are a credit to humanity what with spending every breathing hour in their work to eradicate poverty!

to be quite honest yeah its a shame for him and all but it comes with the sport, he knew the risks and i imagine is insured (though ofc the money isnt the point)

We did once at some point as a country take a biscuit away from an african therefore all poverty is our fault and we have to pay for that untill Affrica is richer than us and we need to ask them for hand outs, at which point we will get laughed at :)

I do give money to charity the NSPCC and a UK Homeless Charity i think we need to fix our problems before we try to fix the world.

Kivvik and Azurus, grow up you sad people. Your total lack of understanding and perspective is quite alarming. For now, let's put aside the fact that I owned you both in Thidranki and talk about the fundemental errors in your arguement.

Sure, I do feel bad for the starving children in Africa who die every 3 seconds or whatever stupid propaganda is thrown at me. But what you need to learn is that the world is not fair, you should have learned that when you were 13, if you're not then grow some fucking balls and come back when you have an opinion.

Where does all your tropical foods come from? Where does your daily tea and coffee come from? Where does the material with which your clothes are made of come from? Does Tesco have a giant factory at the back of the superstore which makes all the food it sells? NO you malignent fool! They come from Africa and the UN wants Africa to stay poor because without it we can't get essentials for dirty cheap prices! The world cannot work if everyone is rich. There will always be rich and poor, deal with it.
