I have taken to playing the geetar in the last few years. I am now composing my own songs and attempting to record them. All I am using though is just a web cam and a simple mic. I then use windows move maker 2 to record the songs. My style is weird as I am using my version of finger picking blues so I like to show the finger work. Only problem is the recordings are scratchy with a fair amount of background hissing. What software can I use to edit the audio in the film? I can remove the audio now and edit it but I can't seem to add it back into the film with movie maker.

Here is a song I just recorded and want to edit 'Lost Love' - 10 Mb film about lost love *sobs* - end of relationship kinda thing.

Didn't there used to be a music section on Freddys sumwhere?

I'm not sure how to use Windows Movie Maker, but if you can get the sound out I'm sure you can put it back in, that would be a rather crippling flaw in WMM's design of you can't… although this _is_ Windows Movie Maker so you can never be too sure.

Once you've extracted your audio, you can use Audacity to clean up the audio. The only other software I can think of for the job would be Quicktime Pro, which has excellent features for manipulating the various layers of movies. I've no idea whether it's as good on Windows as on the Mac, though.

In Windows movie maker near the bottom right corner there is a 'show timeline' button, click this and it changes to 'show storyboard'

Once in the 'Timeline mode' you can 'drag n drop' the video file onto the timeline.

Under the 'capture video' heading under movie tasks, there is an 'import audio' option, import your audio file then 'drag n drop' that file onto the timeline.

bit of a quick explantion but you should get the idea!

For what you're doing I'd use SoundForge and Vegas. But you can use MovieMaker as Gat said and Audacity as Shovel said for the same purpose.

Thanks for all the help. Finally got windows movie maker to work. I saved the video file as muted (without sound) after first extracting the audio with a program called Acoustica 3.2 (just imported the video into it and resaved it as a wav file after editing it. I was then able to mix the 2 with movie maker. Prior to this movie maker was holding onto the original sound the video had - obviously come to think of it. Works fine now though.
