Its good to complain about the things you dont like that the government does. Its always good to challenge the authorities for the things they impose on you.

You may think they go too far and they may well do...

But sometimes its better than the alternative...
Shooting: I see no harm in this as a sport. I do see the governments problem with guns and they will have a hard time stopping criminals getting their hands on them just like they will with suicide bombers. So restricting them in any way may have an impact however small. Its better than having people running around with AK47's like they have in South Africa ffs!!

The rest I agree with you Throd to a certain extent...
In South Africa I would say your freedom of speech is more free than here but only because what the country went through in its past. However this freedom can cause problems of its own and I foresee it wont be long before its like here.
Health and safety is another thing I think has gone to the extreme here as its found its way to all the tourist spots in SA...and as a result has watered down the naturalness of these areas.

I also dont agree with blaming Hitler for all the excesses of the Nazi party - he was ruthless and nationalistic but he was also mentally ill - the blame should be shared by those who did evil acts 'under orders' as well.

Nothing/No-one is intrinsically evil the same as nothing/no-one is intrinsically good.

It's a genuine, if pointless, point. Similar to the one I was making - is there a clear definition between someone who is evil and someone who's mentally/socially ill? Isn't a serial killer just sick?

As for the blame game, I don't think you can blame Hitler for everything nazi germany did - there were plenty of other psychos doing nasty stuff too. I'd imagine Hitler deserved the most though.

If a serial killer is sick then there must be a cure. I think the only cure would be to rewrite their brain pathways....ie make them someone else. You cant give them a lithium pill and make it all better.

This entire country seems to have been overrun by people whose sole purpose in life is telling other people what they should do, based on their own opinions. I'm not suggesting that they have no right to their opinions because after all, thats what makes this country great. Theres nothing wrong with chaining yourself to a JCB, or rescuing 200 cats from a Vivisectionist, thats all fine in my book.

What annoys me is the insipid way in which these messages are taken up and broadcast by all forms of media. "Fat is bad for you". "Cars are evil". "Guns are for killing, therefore lets ban them". "Racism is wrong, therefore lets stifle the debate". By trying to be politically correct, and in their own opinion do the correct thing by society, they're actually pulling at the threads which hold this country together - the right to have a choice, and to have an opinion.

The other day, a councillor in Bath suggested that lives could be saved on the roads by not maintaining them, the idea being that on a dodgy road people slow down. I'm sure Throddy would tell anybody who doesn't know, why that is an extremely bad idea. One uneducated person, with zero experience of the subject hes talking about, and it gets printed (and believed) by several thousand people.

In my personal opinion, we should replace the politically correct stick with the common sense stick, take back a few of the cherished values and ways from yesteryear (like allowing teachers to give a bloody good whack with a stick to unruly children on the head), and get on with enjoying our own lives - and not interfering in other people's lives.

The decent ones wouldn't be getting punished in the first place, only the fucktards. It would instill stronger discipline and a sense of being accountable for your actions, instead of this prevailing 'I can do what I like cos my Mum will sue you if you touch me' attitude.

When I was at school, my Mum had a letter on file with the Head Master stating that should he feel at any time that corporal punishment (i.e. the cane) was deserved he was to use it on me without hesitation. Sure, at the time, I thought it a bit over the top but when I see how traditional values and sense of right and wrong have been eroded in this country for year after year I look back fondly now with an immense amount of respect for her for standing up proudly and saying she believed in good honest values.

I have only ever had to smack my eldest son once, and my youngest once, in their lifetimes. They know that I will if they misbehave (severely) and they respect the reasons why. Both have been praised in school reports by their teachers for their politeness, good behaviour and good-nature towards others around them, and I am very proud. I believe that this is largely due to their being taught these values right from an early age.

Who are you to judge the people that lived there and then? All you can do is live like you believe you should. Anything else is a waste of time.
