Just finished watching it, that ending is soooo bloody dark! It un-nerved me as well and that doesn't happen very often!

Still think it's a brilliant film and I have really, not that much of an idea why. The whole thing was just brilliantly done and to a pretty high degree, believable.

One of the best recent kind of horror films I've seen in a long while, even though I didn't expect much. Definitely recommended (but tbh, I found the ending a little too predictable but even so, it still gave a good sucker punch; that's the beauty of the film :)).

i watched this a little while ago and i couldn't get it out of my head. it's been a long time since i watched a film that disturbed me quite so much.

the ending with it's total subversion of the norm was the breaking point.

if you enjoyed it, check out 'them' and 'funny games' - both similar themes and rely on the suspense as much as the gore for it's shocks albeit in different ways.

I thought it was a cracking film, watched it in the week.

Some great young actors in it as well. Just a shame the lady didn't get her b00bs out, she reminded me of the Ting Tings singer.

I thought it was shit.

The characters did stupid things. The guy in it was a dick. Anyone with half a brain doesn't go picking fights with kids like that these days. And wandering into the house? Why?

There's no excuse for such lazy, unintelligent story telling these days.
It makes it hard to like a film when the characters you're supposed to be sympathising with do such stupid things that all you can think of is "well they deserved that".

The guy was supposed to be a dick, that was the character you could tell with the activities he done and when she joked about him being leary with his drinking mates

Just because it's a film doesn't mean you have to take a holiday from logical behaviour.

Oh and the bit you're referring to didn't happen to the couple I was talking about being unsympathetic towards.

Just watched this tonight.

I'm with Kenny; my girlfriend and I kept saying "oh fuck sake, don't do that" and "what the fuck, who would ever do that?!". Yes, yes; it's a fictional film and not meant to be realistic, but it has to be slightly more believable so not to detract from a reasonable amount of enjoyment, you just end up thinking "noone in their right mind would have done that". Couple that with the fact that in a huge wooded area that they kept managing to bump into each other as well - fuck sake that was annoying.

Look at Deliverance, it did what Eden Lake was trying to do in a hugely better way. Eden Lake just sucked fat cocks.

That said, the acting was brilliant, the chavs were awesome and believable. I also have to agree about it being un-nerving, particularly with somewhat related news stories taking place even just now that drive home the harsh truth that youth knife culture is a persistent and high profile problem.

Here in West Lothian, there are a lot of backward, economically deprived mining towns permeated with the lowest of the low social classes and it scares me shitless knowing that these sorts of people are part of these communities.

In a contradictary way, I suppose Eden Lake did exactly what it was meant to do, even if it sucked as a film.

Didn't the director also do the Descent? In which at the end a mud/blood covered women drove away in a 4x4?

yes bought it on DVD cos it was cheap and I thought the Descent was an amazing film. To me, its not as good as the descent, but yes, it totally unerved me. Like the rest of you i thought the acting was excellent, particulalry of the Chavs, and Brett, the lead Chav, was a complete psychopath....really scary. I too foundmyself thinking, 'Oh, COME ON' at some points, and to be honest, I wasn't at all scared....unlike the descent which scared me shitless and gave me nightmares for a couple of weeks afterwards. However, it has stuck in my head, so again, I guess its done what it was supposed to do!

The Descent comes highly recommended to me as a really scary film - I'm looking forward to that. Eden Lake was more psychologically scary.
