Earphones

My earphones have broken and I need to replace them, is it worth getting a pair of Sennheiser earphones for the sake of using something discrete for when I'm out and about etc or should I just plump for something a little more downmarket (like another pair of my old ones). I've not looked at prices yet, are they horribly expensive?

I have a pair of these. £35 well spent (actually £70, because I lost the first pair and had to buy another). They sound great and are really comfortable. There've been times when I've sat up suddenly thinking 'Shit! I can't feel my earphones." Then I realize if they had fallen out I wouldn't still be hearing the music. They're good for other people too, I can play music on full blast and no one else can hear a thing.

It's gonna be great in 20-30 years or so, when all these deaf people are complaining about me speaking too quietly!

Anyway, I wouldn't spend more than £25 on headphones (I wouldn't buy earphones - bad for your ears), mainly because the environments you wear them in don't allow you to appreciate the full range of sound a more expensive pair would provide.

I'm unfortunate, in that I have strange things going on with my ears that do not enable normal "in the ear" headphones to stay in my head. I have to either get headphones with a headband or plump for something like this. Which incidentily, I did.

i use a pair of these

bought them originally for dj'ing and have stuck with them ever since, good thing about them is you can replace the headphone cable if ever they break.

the next pair up are the ones you see andy gray and martin tyler wearing on sky footie although at 100-120 quid a pop a bit extreme for gaming.

I've got tonnes of earphones that were given to me free on long haul flights; they also came with stripey socks and underpants that expand in water

Some of you have missed the point. I need earphones which go in your ear, not big fuck off headphones that have a headband on them. I'm not walking down the street with a huge pair of headphones on ta. I also listen to music in bed, and it's not particularly comfortable wearing a pair of proper headphones if you're trying to get to sleep.

Ta anyway Fweddy, going to have a look at sony's offerings.

My advice would be to not walk down the street wearing earphones and listening to music if Im completely honest , as it makes people look very silly and a bit childish .

It's not like I'm dancing round the streets like a spaz, throd. I just prefer the sounds of music than the sound of engines and people talking!

And no, I don't walk around listening to music if I'm with somebosy at the time. I'm not that antisocial.

Good sound and about £15 iirc.

the bass sound is a lot better than any other earbuds iive used, sure its not chest shaking bass, but its certainly a lot better than using some 5.99 pair from argos.

But they kept fucking up :/ then I accidently stepped on em.

I use some sony Fontopia things now. Not too bad either

I just bought some Sennheiser MX500's, just tested them and they're great I couldn't find any sony ones in the shop I looked in unfortunately, otherwise I'd have gone with mookie's recommendation.

by the way the best in-the-ear phones you can get are £35, they are the apple ipod ones, you can buy them seperately on apple's site... you'll only be able to use the phone part, not the remote... but £35 well spent still the sound quality on them is awesome.

fwiw, the ipod earphones were actually very good, but my ear shape is shitty and they didnt sit very well in my ears, they kept falling out, so on the recomendation of a lot of people on some ipod forum, I went out and got a pair of ex70s, they fit in my ears lovely, the cord is nice and long and the sound is great.
got them from index of all places, 34.99. not too bad
