Got everything patched up and ready, when starting the client (to watch the intros really) I see only the mouse cursor, a black screen and I can here the videos being played through.

Is this normal?

Try enabling (or disabling) windowed mode in the settings.exe. Got that bug in one of the beta builds. It magically gone one day.

Running the config program and changing nothing did it for me.

Installing newest Nvidia drivers anyway, new came yesterday (8600 at least).

The simple config program allows me to set DirectX 10, but the client will not run with this setting.

The client settings program doesn't allow me to set DirectX 10, only 9.

I have an Nvidia 8600 and Vista 32, World in Conflict (DX10 title) runs okay.

Is DX10 enabled in the early access AoC client?

In the last beta patch, the DX10 support got broken and you needed to use DX9 for the time being. Dunno about the retail client tho...

Ah phew, was just wondering why it didn't start at all.

Patched client today, ran the client, got black screen, played around with the setting, when i choose 1280x1024 the game started with 1280x940, when i choose one of the widescreen it ran in normal 1280x1024. :) But playing with the settings finally ran the intro for me.

I just want to get online and see if this "suggestion" of 1900x1200 widescreen with high anti-al and settings" is really doable :D

shame if dx10 doesn't work on launch though.

DX10 is one of those features that they brag alot about when they get it semi-working and they don't mention anymore when they find out they don't have time developing on it.
Doubt we'll find it working at launch :(

TBH I couldnt make out all that much of a difference between DX9 and DX10 version. Both look stunning when you max visuals. I am not worried at all...
