No, they didn't rip him, they were quite sensitive. They blamed the Scientologists for messing with his head and absolved him of blame. They still really liked him when he left, they were just disappointed he did.

Yeah if you think it's gone downhill go and rewatch S1. It's still great and all, but c'mon. I don't think it's at its peak, I think that was around S7-11 (rough estimate) but it's still the best comedy show being produced by miles.
