DX8/w2k/GF2 = BAD!

DON'T INSTALL DIRECTX8 IF YOU'RE RUNNING W2K WITH A GF2!!!

I installed it lastnight and now NOTHING works! Not a single directX game will run now, everything is fucked

Tried it first off with the 7.17 detonator drivers - serious mistake, every single game I tried to run either crashed nastily or didn't work properly (lots of black screens with the game running).

Reverted back to 6.34 detonators, not much better, managed to get Red Alert 2 working, nothing else would.

6.31 detonators, same story. Only game I can play is RA2. Counterstrike is fucked

Typical fucking m$ too - once you install dx8 you CANNOT uninstall it.

have u tried reninstalling one of the old dx's such as 7 or 6 par say.

yep I'm sure, no uninstall anywhere, and i tried installing dx7 over the top and it went "you already have an updated version of dx, install cancelled".

DX8 on Win2k with a Voodoo 5 5500 is fine. No apparent improvement though. :S

From M$ DirectX troubleshooting help (C:\WINNT\system32\dxdiag.exe) then the help tab.

For "I see a black screen or black patches around the pointer when I start my game or multimedia program. "

It says... "Disable any anti-virus programs or disk utilities that are installed on your computer." There's loads more.

I've got GF2 and everything works...

..only prob i had was with 7.17 drivers where they
locked up when i click the overlay tab... so i went back
to 6.47 drivers. no biggie.

I know but just because it happens to you doesn't mean it'll happen to others. I know people that its worked fine for, every computer is different.

Update (if anyone cares lol) - cleared out all vid card drivers (unistall drivers, delete nv*.* from system folders, clean out nvidia sections of registry), reinstall 6.31 detonators, and things seem to be ok(ish) now. Everything that worked before works again (I can play CS again wahey thank fucking christ).

Still can't get NOLF or Delta Force Land Warrior to work but I have a suspicion that my SCSI is to blame for NOLF and my SBLive is to blame for Delta Force... just guesses though...

DX8 itself is OK though, neither of those 2 games worked before I put DX8 on.

Just be careful with the leaked 7.17 detonator drivers if you're running w2k is all I can say

DX Uninstaller

I had the same prob trying to go over dx8 with 7.1, the only way i found to *half* do it in the end was fool win9x into thinking it had older drivers by finding the current version entry in the registry, and altering that

But....... I found a much simpler solution

If you look on the M$ site you will see a disclaimer saying that dx8 can NOT be uninstalled without reinstalling Windowz!

I've just installed it and find it to be great, win2k/GF DDR. Seems to have given me a boost in fps, but I have heard of alot of people having troubles with it, loss in fps, games not working etc.

No great use to anyong, but just thought I'd tell people that it does work Just seems to be a 50:50 whether it shags you or not.

Yeah - I'm well impressed with DX8 and Detonator 7.17 on W2K - gave me 'bout a thousand increase in 3DMark from DX7.

so.. if you wan't get rid of it, format your hd

I came up with an idea on the way to upper school.
why dont u find all the things to do with DX8 and delete
the files then reinstall the an old DX
hope this help's u if it doent i give up.
